Fake? The color looks like copper.

Smodak, is this the nib of the problem 149 with broken spindle? if so then do not send the pen to MB.

No. This is not the one. This is just another ebay pen that I was contemplating purchase - looked fake so I posted here. The one that I sent to MB looked authentic. We will see what the service says.

OK. the nib and feed that you have shown here are 100% genuine. Forget fakers, is there any other legitimate pen company that can design and cut such an amazing quality ebonite feeder anymore? that is a work of art...

that brown color is the natural beautiful patina that the unplated 14K gold develops from long storage.

I am glad to hear you say this. I also have a West German 146 whose two-tone nib looks just as yours does, like Copper. It just seems to look "off" the usual yellow or gold gold. In fact, until now I have never seen one like it. Should I leave it this way or is there some way to polish/restore it?

Also, please explain why you caution not to send such a pen to Montblanc for servicing.

Meanwhile, I use mine "as is" with MB Bordeaux. Was scared to try gall ink on questionable nib.

I would leave the patina alone, but if you don't like it, you can remove it by very gently wiping the yellow gold area with a polishing cloth called the Sunshine Cloth.

I cautioned against sending to MB since their approach of repair would be to replace everything with new except for the clip and nib. The HR feeder in the photos looked to be in excellent shape and it would be a shame to lose such a nice component and period correctness of the pen.

Best

Hari

Whilst buying from a Newbie on e-Bay can be highly risky, don't all sellers start with zero feedback?

For what it is worth, the seller is listed as being in Greater Manchester, and this would certainly tie-in with buying from 'Hoopers' a rather up-market department store, attached to which is a very small MB concession. I have bought from there myself and the receipt pictured is exactly as those I have from the same place.

Sometimes it is worth taking a risk Martylaa. Despite the poor picture, the item looks legitimate (though I'm not a fan of that particular range).

Pavoni.

In the last picture. I wondering that the genuine one can remove red section from green section or not.

Thank you for your help

hey guys, pretty urgent. Is this a fake? The pictures are very crappy but it looks very similar to the previous two silver mont blanc fakes that were posted (also from Ontario?)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/110822950822?ssPageName=STRK:MEBOFFX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1427.l2649#ht_1602wt_1219

No offense, but why so urgent?..............Are you the buyer? If there was a question of it's authenticity, then why buy? The seller has only one feedback...

Don't have a Silver Classique so can't comment on it's authenticity. Are there pictures of the pen disassembled? Does it have a converter, and does that look genuine MB?

Remember, ballpoints and C/C Fountains are the most faked (the larger piston fills, less so). If you're not sure, then move on. Another tact would be to ask questions not only of the seller but here in FPN also, BEFORE, the auction ends.

There is a 7 day money back....that is reassuring.

Looking at the bend in the clip would be enough to keep me from bidding on that one.

Thank you for your help

Pen looks real to me. The gold end piece is not user serviceable but does come off. The black inner tube that holds the refill in place within the barrel is glued/shellaced onto to the brass end piece. I believe I can see some residual adhesive on the brass nipple where it attaches.

Another poster, in the other thread you started about this pen, mentioned pulling the cap off. That I wouldn't do, again that piece he is talking about is not user serviceable either. What if you break the cap trying this, find that

The shaft that rotates the cap should be brass with a red plastic knob on the top
is real. But now you have a broken pen.

Thank you for the help! I needed a quick reply because it was an auction that I lost, but the person who won the bid wasn't able to pay for it, so i was offered to buy it at a discounted price being the second top bidder.

Quick question, in which picture can you see the bend in the clip? I've been trying to find it but I'm having a hard time.

Be careful about second chance offerings at eBay. Especially one where the seller doesn't have much feedback.

The first MB I bought off eBay was offered to me this way, back in 2003-2004, therebouts. It's the only fake MB I bought. It taught me to be more careful, communicate with the seller if there is any doubts, have them send better closeup pictures. Don't rush and think you're going to miss out on a great deal.

Regards, Stephen

Thanks for the advice! I contacted the seller about it and I can take the chance since there is a 7 day return time, but I don't want to waste money on shipping it back if I think its fake in the first place.

I'm talking about the radius bend where the clip attaches to the clip band.

How does this nib look?

Misaligned.

But it is genuine, if that is what you are asking sir.

Thanks Hari...I was asking whether it is genuine and also the condition. You confirmed my observation that the tines are misaligned.

How does this nib look?

Agree with hari...

smodak...you are being cryptic my friend. This is a "fake" thread. Are you asking if it's fake? Or the condition of the nib.

Looks like a real 18K MB nib on a split ebonite feed. And yes the tines look a bit misaligned. 80's #149 perchance?
