Sheaffer TD O-rings

Hi Everyone,

Been very excited about venturing in full fountain pen repair and pencil restorations. I have a nice brown TD here that is in need of a sac. Though I have sacs coming from Mr. Dinora, I am quite excited and have jumped the gun on the break down of the pen. I was able to take the section off and the old sac without problems. The Blind cap came off as stated in Da Book, a little WD40 and the screw gave out effortlessly. Well, I have not take the O ring off, becuase first inspection shows that it is still supple and pliable. The sac on this pen looks like it was done not too long ago, it just go cought in on the top of the sac protector and ripped. From the looks of it, it was completely redone. However, needing all of the schooling I can get, I went to the autorepair store and asked for O rings. I found a couple that wold fit but I was not too sure. So my question is:

Can anyone tell me what the dimmensions for the O-rings are? I'd like to get both the larger and smaller pens.

Thanks,

Angelo

Angelo, buy the proper O rings from Giovanni at Tryphon... they are sized correctly for the pens... I don't know if an auto parts store carries the correct size and diameter O rings.

The TM Touchdown and Snork take a 7mm inside diameter x 1mm O-ring. Kendall did a bunch of research on this and put together a big order from an online distributor - I still have a bunch from that order.

You know Griz, with the number you do, you might want to check this out too.

So if you have a lot of ink,

You should get a Yink, I think.

Yeah, if I recall, 1x7 for TM models and 1x8 for 49 TD's. I don't know what the PFM Orings are but Richard might know. In that thread I found a place that will see them in custom quantities down to single digits for fairly cheap.

Note: if you do Snorkels, the point seals are not Orings, but gaskets, and I have not found any place that sells a comparable, so I still buy them from a pen seller. I got mine from Nishimura I think. Some people sell a "point seal Oring" that is for use in conjunction with the original gasket. This you might be able to buy direct (don't know the size). But I prefer to replace with a like part.

Wait, it think the PFM Orings are the same size as 49TD's. I just redid my first PFM, and don't remember getting new Orings.

Thank you much folks. Yes Autozone had the 7mm oring. I became brave and removed the o-ring. I took it with me to Autozone and found the matches. Only cause I could not wait to get on with the practice, but they are $1.25 a piece! I think I'll stick to the conventional pen suppliers! But in a bind or a weird emergency, you know where you can get them now.

Regards,

Angelo

Hi Johnny,

thanks for trying to take customers away from me!!!

Tom and I have a great relationship, I am sure he will remain a good and loyal customer.

Take care,

Johnny, I don't do enough Snorks and TDs to buy that many O rings at a time...

Besides as Giovanni says, "We have an arrangement"...

I don't buy O rings from anyone else and he doesn't send his cousin Vinny NoNeck to come visit me :P :P :P

Honestly, even if I did do that many pens, I would still buy the ones I get from a reputable restoration parts supplier...

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
