rollerball refill in ballpoint

I checked the forum, and I could have sworn this has been discussed, but no luck finding the thread. I am seriously considering buying a Hemingway ballpoint, but I hate the ink color of ballpoints and would like to know if the rollerball refill would fit, even if it takes a bit of modification to make it work.

It doesn't have to be a Hemingway that someone tried this switch, I just want to know if someone has been successful at it. I am looking for signs of hope :) I can live with that...

cheers

I have a starwalker roller ball and a starwalker ballpoint. The rollerball refill screws into the point end of the pen (the refill itself has threads). The roller ball refill is also 1/2 to 1 inch longer than the ball point refill. I tried putting the roller ball refill into the ball point and it did not fit. Not even close.

No, rollerball refills do not fit into a ballpoint boddy. But a ballpoint refills fit into a rollerball with an adapter.

And you shouldn't try to put any other rollerball refills into an uncaped boddy as the rollerball refill starts leaking as soon as only one filament touches the tip ...

Hmmm. I wonder if a Boheme rollerball refill will be short enough to fit in a standard body ballpoint. :hmm1:

One other thing to consider when using RB refills with BP pens: rollerballs often require a cap to keep them from drying out too fast, so if the ballpoint doesn't have a cap, that could be a problem. Some RB refills are okay without one but I'm pretty sure that's not the case with all of them. I could be wrong, though.

You are correct. My thought was, since I keep my pens in a pouch, this may decrease the chance of drying out the ink. It's just an idea at this point.

I have been using Monteverde Capless Ink Gel (M42) refills on my MB ballpens. They write better than MB refills and don't dry out within 1 month. On the ballpen refill side, Monteverde's got much more colour selections

Nope...Bohemes use the same exact rollerball refill that the classique line uses and that is also the same exact size as the fineliner refills.

To the original poster, look up YAFA refills, they make a gel ink refill that will fit into the Montblanc ballpoints. Writes like a rollerball, but has the no cap needed convenience of a ballpoint (and no, I've not tried them, but I have friends who have and swear by them).

I am one of those unlucky ones that had a terrible experience with Monteverde capless gel for Montblanc ballpoint. Had to buy a bold MB ballpoint refill instead; bad but better than nothing.
