Not with a bargepole. Don't care how good they are, they have no right to use the name.

When you're good at it, it's really miserable.

As well as the dubious ethics / legality of this kind of business, maybe you could ask yourself if you really need a (more than likely) low quality pen just because it sports a Mont Blanc logo. You can get nice looking, decent, inexpensive pens from reputable companies that will probably write better and last longer. That's just how I see it though.

Since we don't know how well this pen can write, how about getting a Lamy Safari for just a tad more money, it's really a great pen in my experience. I'm sure you'll find many people on this forum that will agree with me, it's a great writing, and very sturdy pen.

The above shall not be construed as legal advice under any circumstances

Wow those replica pens look horrible. They would stand out as (Potty Mouth) something fierce if you set them next to a real Mont Blanc. Those would look cheap sitting next to a Pelikano. In the photos half of the caps don't even sit on the pens correctly, when screwed all the way in.

For 30 bucks you can buy a pen that writes pretty great, and looks pretty good too.

I have a "replica" Virginia Woolfe that I got just to try an imitation MB. The pen is fairly well made, and the steel nib is okay. It writes well enough. The pens you picture do not appear to be replicas of any MB pen model that I am familiar with. I agree with Fuddlestack that this seller is misusing the MB name.

The replica market is one of the real dangers in life today. While fake Montblancs or ST Duponts or Pelikans or Parkers may not be life threatening, the same folk that think it's fine to fake an MB are also faking baby foods, medicines, car, train and plane parts.

Don't buy or support fakes.

I would never consider buying a fake (or "replicas" as they now call it to make it sound better). It would be for all the wrong reasons. I pay what I pay because I believe in the quality, love the heritage, and the classic design; not because I want a flashy status symbol for people to potentially ogle at.

"imitation"?

"Replica"?

What the hell ever happened to an easy, simple, four-letter word?

FAKE

We don't buy fakes here at the FPN. It supports terrorism or something ludicrous like that...

No I haven't, I can't believe you would ask the above question. Theft of any kind is completely wrong.

Most are awful facsimiles, but some are surprisingly good in photos. Careful out there!

Don't do it, Perhaps buy a Waterman Phileas/Kultur, a pen possessing good looks, a well known name, and very good writing performance!

Am I missing something here? I am not aware of any MB pens that resemble any of the pens shown. They aren't replicas, they are just plain cheap pens that would only show up the owner of one of these pens as a wannabe cheapskate.

Besides it is illegal to sell such pens as MB's or Rolex's even if you say up front that they aren't real, it is still breaking laws to sell them.

edited to add "of questionable character" to wannabe cheapskate.

Sadly nobody's going to get prosecuted because host countries in Asia regularly allow local companies to steal products, patents, identities, etc. from other countries (the US and Europe is specifically what I'm talking about), and simply refuse to do anything about it. The US government claims bureaucracy, inertia, nationalism, ad nauseum, but of course something might be done for a (HUGE) fee and legal bills in the millions. Usually a foreign company will approach a domestic one and ask for a license, and if the price is too high, they will just say sorry we're going to do it anyway thanks for your time. I have seen this first hand with a popular coffee chain here in Seattle copied in minute detail (except the quality of the product of course) by a Japanese company and we had zero recourse.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
