High Ink Capacity Pen

Another vote for anything by Wality... I've only had the piston fillers, which hold a standard amount of ink... but great pens! I've owned five, had one with a faulty piston and Retrodesk sent me a replacement right away- while letting me keep the one with the bum piston in case I wanted the parts.

@Silvermink: the feed would cover some difference, yeah... But there also seems to be some variation otherwise. It's not hard to get off by 0.1 or 0.2 mL; you can do so by blotting, among other things.

WTB: Lamy 27 w/ OB/OBB nibs; Pelikan 100 B nib

There is a very inexpensive Pilot ED pen called the Tank that is sold in Asia and is usually available on the Web. It uses the same wonderful nibs as the 78G, I believe. And it does not have any particular problems with secreting ink drops as the pen becomes less full. It's a small pen--same size as the 78G--but if that's OK with you it's a wonderful writer. Also, there are several threads here about converting a Platinum Preppy--a somewhat larger and even less expensive pen--to an ED, giving you an enormous capacity on top of an excellent nib. The Preppy has a quite elaborate ink collector, so it should have no problems with blobs of ink either. Now there are both what I'd call an EF nib and a 0.5 mm narrow Medium nib available in the Preppy, so you might try that. You don't have to get elaborate with O-rings, by the way. A little silicon grease on the threads seems to work just fine.

+1 for the Tank. I just got one a couple of weeks ago, and it works great.

Student pens with a notable ink capacity:

-Reform 1745

-Pelikan GO

-Pelikan Level L65 & 5

-Pelikan 200 series

All these have ink windows, or translucent barrels that allow to see the ink level but for the GO. Which has such capacity that you risk to forget it needs to be refilled.

More expensive pens;

-Lamy 2000. The ink window is not very.....well, is quite small and opaque, but enough to see through against a light source. Very reasonably priced, it can be had online for $89!

- Right now, one of the most amazing deals out there, are Stipula Suprema LE closeouts from Regina Martini. Both, Umbra and Pielago celluloid versions hold a tank of ink, with a huge ink window, and a very fine ( to XF) nib. The Stipula 22 are a bit smaller but have outstanding transparent bodies and ink capacities.

Thanks for all the tips!

I'll try filling my pens back up daily; that's a solution I hadn't thought of. Though every time I fill my pen up I keep getting tempted to use a different colour of ink... (Maybe I can fit more pens into my budget if I wasn't so obsessed with ink. :( )

I was edging away from the Level because of the reviews posted: they seem overengineered, and I won't get to try a variety of inks (unless I can get my hands on some empty bottles). But it is convenient to refill at school, more so than the converter system. And not to mention the capacity! I also looked at the Pelikan M205, and they seem pretty nice and relatively cheap for a piston filler.

As for eyedroppers, I'm cautious about changing any pens into one. Getting one is a viable idea though.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
