Diamine Majestic Blue

Looks like a great color and I do like how Diamine inks perform in my pens. I currently have Presidential Blue and Violet and like them both a great deal. I just ordered some 30 ml bottles and wish I had included this one. I already own six different blues so I thought I'd try some other Diamine colors (Monaco red, Delamere Green, Sherwood Forest, and Amazing Amethyst). I'll start the list for the next order!

I really like this color. As Gran says, it rivals Visconti Blue ( slightly brighter) in beauty.

I like it is a deeper darker blue than either Omas or Visconti. It's very saturated and intense. I've been using it in a Pelikan 800 and an Omas 360 Celluloid has some of the properties that Parker Penman did and is really a deep blue. The caution though about the slow nature is fair. It's slow at times in both pens I've used it in and I expect some of that as saturated as it is. The drying isn't enough to stop me from using it, but I do think it will make me change it more frequently and flush and clean. Great color, but I do think the caution is fair, not as free flowing as some of the lighter colors like Omas, Herbin, or Visconti in my experience.

I got it in the hopes of finding a really dark blue - but not black/blue, which is more black than any other colour in my opinion!

I've been enjoying my new bottle. The color is remarkable. It does dry in the nib pretty quickly though so I have think quickly and keep that pen moving.

Beautiful blue. I just got it and love it. Deep, dark cobalt blue even when dry. If this one were waterproof would be perfect!.

Wow. This is a great colour. How does it compare to Parker Penman Sapphire? Maybe it is just my monitor, but from the scan it looks very similar.

Thank you for reviewing this ink; I recently received a sample of it and it is quite tempting. However, have you noticed a metallic red tint around the edges of the letters when you use a broad nib? Has anyone else had this problem, I read through this post and nobody else mentioned it; I'm wondering if I maybe got a sample from a "bum batch" or something???

 

BTW, I only had the problem with the broader nibs; with fine to medium nibs, you don't notice it.

Not in this thread, but in many other threads about this ink, people have mentioned that characteristic red sheen where this ink sits very saturated on the paper. It is a surface effect which some other saturated true blues like Sailor Blue or Private Reserve Electric DC Blue display. It is a feature, not a problem.

HenryLouis did some great pictures showing that red sheen but I'm not finding the thread. Perhaps someone else will have better luck.

I dont see the red in my sample, but this one has become my default blue. It keeps a nice dark cobalt blue color after it is dry, something very rare in water soluble dyes.

Majestic Blue is not too dissimilar to Penman Sapphire in many ways. Apart from Visconti Blue, Majestic (with just a touch of added water) will be what I use when not using my dwindling supply of Penman Sapphire. I generally like ink to be pretty intense most of the time.

 

The Majestic has a hint of purple and a red sheen from very wet writers (hence the slight dilution to avoid this) whereas I find PS to be a purer blue blue. But Diamine majestic Blue is, well, ... majestic.

Just don't get WES Imperial Blue by mistake (it was a Writing Equipment Society special). Some might like it but I think it is horrible; although it looks quite interesting as you write, being a sort of violet/purple/blue, for me it dries to a pale, watery and characterless boring blue - the only Diamine ink I really don't like.

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like imperial blue. In fact Majestic Blue is what I would have expected Inperial Blue to look like.

I have a bottle of this as well. behaves nicely, but just a bit too purple for my taste.

This is one of my favorite inks. Too saturated to shade, but I love the deep rich color and I especially love the red sheen which makes it quite unique for me. Best in a med wet writer.
