Long Lasting Scented Inks...

Crim

Are there any? Ones that could last maybe months? If not, is it even possible?

Who here would like an ink that could leave a very long (but not too strong) lasting scent? I think I'd love a bottle if it was a pleasant smell!

I've never heard of any. I have De Atramentis, Montblanc and J. Herbin inks and none fit your specifications.

=/. Yeah I've heard most people hear say the scents don't last long (except for that MB love letter one; I hear it lasts a day or something). Of the ones that you have, how long do they generally last? Which ones are nice (in your opinion)? I'm want to venture into the land of scented inks.

My main Q though, is it even possible? I don't really know much about the chemistry of scents, but could a smell (within an ink; on paper) last for months? Years? And if so, would making an ink with such qualities be possible?

The J. Herbin and De Atramentis Inks are all pretty good.

The Montblanc Inks are hit and miss. Je T'aime is a nice rose scent, but the newer Love Letter smells fake and plastic-like. Most of the Seasons Greetings inks are nice, except for White Forest 2008, which smells like Pine-Sol.

I'm not a perfume maker, so I don't really know. I'd be inclined to say no, on the principle that you need a fairly low vapour pressure to get the scent in the air and that tends to cause loss of the perfume over time. Perhaps if you had a very pungent perfume with a high vapour pressure, you could still smell the scent but the rate of loss would be sufficiently low as to allow the scent to linger for an extended period. Perhaps there is a perfume expert on the board who could chime in with more specific knowledge.

Alright, well I guess I'll give them a try sometime! And thanks for the input.

hmm I used to have scented letters from my grandmother and the scent used to last for ages. I assume it was a little spray of her perfume but one could still smell it for quite a long time. I wish some of the scented inks did that.

Wish list: Aurora Optima

Current inked Pens: Pilot Decimo - Noodlers BBH, MB Mozart - MB Lavender

Pelikan M150 - Noodlers Kung te Cheng

Uhh, maybe I'm not getting filled in here but do you mean the smell of the ink in the bottle or after having written with it on paper. You didn't say so.

IMO paper-written scented inks last (as far as scent is concrned) only a minute or two (depending on your flow and nib width and paper).

But if you just open the bottle, the scent is long descernable, even for months, years.

Scent in inks is not really designed to last long and I don't think you could make it last long term like perfume because of the chemical base needed it would change the ink (imo). Instead of scented inks you might want to consider scent infused paper that will last for you and you can check out some info on it at my site Lady Ambrosia's Creations.

I'm reminded of all the various magazines that have perfume or cologne packets that you open to smell, and after a few days they are wearing out. I'm guessing if the people selling actual fragrances cannot find a better way, then an ink smell persisting on a paper is hopeless. I think any letters that smell of perfume were sprayed with perfume.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Yeah the samples in the magazines they work the scent into the adhesive on the strip in the folded over part.

Most letters that smell like perfume have been sprayed with perfume but there is a way to infuse the paper with the scent without spraying it if your patient enough to wait through the process. Or as a friend laughingly told me “Or have you do it and buy the smells from you” lol

WOW!

I just clicked on the link to your website and that has to be the most beautiful page display I have ever seen in all my years on the internet.

I'm not exaggerating.

I don't think I knew until just now how much I love all the delicious shades of purple.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
