What Does Your Handwriting Look Like

Just signed up for this site and bought my first FP today. I've never given my handwriting much thought until recently.

http://i51.tinypic.com/2hebkt4.jpg

I wrote slowly so my handwriting would be legible. I'm thinking about picking up a non disposable FP soon. Perhaps a Lamy Safari ground to italic cursive. I'm still trying to 'find my style' but I would like to eventually write with a beautiful but clear/legible cursive. I like Leo's example and it looks like it's suited for daily normal writing so I might try to emulate his style

I thought there should be a topic where we post pictures of our handwriting and comment, so I decided to start one. This was a writing sample I posted here for someone about a cursive italic Parker 51 nib.

Woah Blake are you really only 14? That's a classy hand you have. (Hope it doesn't sound patronising, it wasn't meant to be!)

I have no scanner at present so will try and take photos of my writing to put up here.

I have four different hands- my normal handwriting, a "joined up capitals" hand I seem to have inherited from my Dad for lists and notes, my cursive/roundhand "sunday best", and my italic, which I'm quite rusty at and need to practise!

I love looking at handwriting. It's a form of art to me.

Here are some examples of mine. The first one was part of a draft of an article which has now been published. The second one was my 'doodling' while taking a break from writing the above article.

I looked at this and thought "Leonardo DaVinci" :)

Good that you've found your way here - this place will be inspirational and helpful, I hope. I can read your writing easily.

It will be interesting to hear what others say, but I'm wondering if a plain nib such as comes with the ordinary Safari (which I think is a very good pen for the money) may be better while you find your style, than an italic nib which is intended for one certain style? Like to hear from some other FPNers on this.

Also recommend getting the converter with the Lamy so that you can experiment with many different inks. Good luck.

...and :W2FPN:

I'm a newbie but here's my tuppenceworth- personally I can only write in italic with an italic nib, my normal handwriting comes out terribly and takes ages to do. I do apparently hold my pen in an odd way though.

Similarly, I can't write italic with a normal nib, I can't get the grip right because there is no diagonal slope to the stroke.

Madnessman, I find your writing legible and similar to my own cursive, I tend to have fat vowels because that's how I was taught. If you're writing self-taught you're doing well :)

Incidentally, since I've started using a FP again instead of a ballpoint, I find myself automatically writing in cursive. It just feels like the natural thing to do- the ink flows so my writing flows. What do you think?

Hi all !

I'm newby here (I mean I registrered today, but I have lurked FPN for months ;) ), and I feel this is a nice thread for a first post.

Here you have several exemples of my "normal" (i.e. not taking care) handwritting. I have always loved fountain pens. I learned to write

with them, in an age of everybody learned with a ballpoint. My teachers found it was a nasty habit, but I guess I was a bit stubborn...

I haven't a nice clean handwritting, but with a fouintain pen at least I am able to read myself, when I use a ballpoint pen I'm unable

to decrypt myself :D

Here's my somewhat hastily done sample. My hand gets shaky due to muscle problems, which makes my handwriting shakier than desired. Oh well. This is written with a Pilot Vanishing Point in Medium using Noodler's Ottoman Azure.

Hello FPN, long time no see :D

My current handwriting (old German cursive) looks like this. I used Waterman South Sea Blue and I think the first photo matches the ink colour better than the second.

Best regards

I'd been wondering if anyone still actually used this style, even since I learned it (then forgot it again) whilst beginning to study German some while back. Looks lovely in real modern use.

Thank you  The bottom sample is written in Waterman Havana Brown with a Pelikan M200 (OB nib). Here's another sample with the same pen/ink combination. Unfortunately my Greek is rather less elegant but as I started writing I was amazed I still knew this by heart...

That's beautiful! Where can **I** get a pen that writes in Greek? Oh man!

Beautiful writing AND beautiful thoughts! Where is it from? Did you compose it? I love it!

Here are two samples of my handwriting. But wait, Skyppere, you're probably saying... "we can't really read anything!" Well I need

to be the first to tell you that it's not a lot more ledgible if it was sitting in your lap. I'm leaving it vague like this so I have a prayer

of getting another snailer... full disclosure and people would be running screaming into the night...

Can't say my handwriting is as impressive as most of the samples here, but I'll throw in a sample. For what it's worth, the whole sample is written on Tops Docket Gold with a Pelikan M205 using Sailor Nano Blue-Black. The first two stanzas are a stub (steel). The second two stanzas are an XXF (steel).

Personally, I prefer the overall look of the cursive, but I think the print is easier to read. I am not enamored with either of them, but I'm working on improving both (the handwriting, not falling in love with it).

Thanks for your comment.

My sisters and my grandmas can read it, so I can even use it for letters and postcards from time to time.

I think the XXF works better for you. Your handwriting is quite small, and looks too "thick" (IMO) with the stub nib.

Thanks for the comments. I was starting to think the same thing. I liked the line variation of the stub, but it often feels too thick.

I have a flex dip pen on the way for my next experiment. I'm thinking ultimately to look for an XF or XXF flex nib, but my plan is to check it out relatively inexpensively with a dip pen.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
