Hi guys, it's my first post on this forum.

Just a mini-introduction: I'm a university student in my final year, and just bought myself a fountain pen for his birthday (what an excuse - it's not in a few days). A very beautiful Caran D'Ache fountain pen (of course, I used daddy's money :) ). It's been a while since I used a fountain pen - precisely when my precious fountain pen got stolen when I was at school (10 years ago). Ever since it got stolen, I was afraid to spend to much on stationery, so I just used a roller ball for 10 years - until now! For some odd reason, I was like - why not buy myself a fountain pen for my birthday? Of course it wasn't as simple as that, as things never are, but for mini-introduction purposes, it is something like that.

So anyway. Since I am not so used to my newly bought fountain pen, I had a lot of questions like should I post my cap or not? I habitually do so with my roller ball pens, so at first I do post my cap on the fountain pen (naturally). But then I realised the cap falls off quite easily and perhaps it was not meant be capped. I took it off and wrote with it - it was a weird feeling - so much pressure off the pen taken away, and then it felt like a relief!

Writing without a cap (with my newly bought Caran D'Ache fountain pen) is what I prefer now. Less pressure and the cap won't fall off (because it will do if I cap it on my pen - I guess I write in varying angles too much). Where do I put it? Now, I put in on my desk - holding it seems a little weird to me (weird meaning, not really used to it.) I really hope I don't lose track of where it is because I often find myself in these situations like - where is the damn key? where is my damn wallet?

But most of the time, in these situations, I do find it. Cause I am just so damn lucky that way.

Depends on the pen, but my preference is to post the cap. The Lamy 2000 doesn't post well, but the Pelikan 2xx/4xx pens feel too short without the cap posted. It's pretty clear from the balance and length that the Pels were designed to be posted.

I find the Safari is too top heavy for posting the cap so I'm constantly losing track of it, especially when I'm writing in bed. :headsmack: Fortunately the Lamy 2000 is perfectly balanced when posted. No lost cap!! :eureka:

I have one of those inexpensive crystal ring holders on my desk - you know, they have a column in the center that you're supposed to put your rings on while you're washing dishes. If I'm not posting my pen cap, I put the cap on the ring-holder column. This keeps it visible - above the disorder that sometimes reigns on the surface of my desk.

I either hold my cap in my left hand or stand it upright on my desk.

The nice thing about a Sheaffer Balance, is you can park the cap in your nose. Either nostril. Sometimes I go left, others, right.

It depends on the pen for me. My daily writer is more balanced and comfortable unposted (IMO) so I keep it that way.

i almost always post. I am too worried that the cap will get lost or fall off the table and get scratched, etc!

I find I hold the cap in my left hand until I realize I'm doing so, then I cap it. Sometimes I'll go a whole class with cap in hand...

The "51" always gets posted, as do most of the others. Interestingly, I find that the ones I don't post are the heavy rollerballs (including the Parker IM I whose weight I had griped about in another thread). I think the weight has a lot to do with it.

I rarely ever post. Otherwise, I hold the cap in my left hand and usually fiddle with it a bit while I write. It prevents scratching the barrel and gives my free hand something to hold/do - a habit I developed after I quit smoking.

I do not post the cap, because I don't want scratches or marks left by doing so. Perhaps, I'm being overly protective of my pens, but that's just me. As for a pen that is too small or short for my hand, I don't have that problem, at least not yet.

I always post unless the cap will not stay securely posted, in which case I stand the cap on my desk.

If I'm at my desk at home, I stand the cap on the desk top. If I'm out, I usually put it in my pen pouch.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
