where do you put the cap

At my desk, I put the cap, standing upright, on my desk. When not at my desk I hold it in my left hand. And I do post, occasionally, with one or two pens.

Of course, when I'm done writing the cap goes back on the pointy end.

I'm currently a student, and I use fountain pens when when in class (and of course whenever and wherever I write). I usually post my pens when writing. If I can't post a pen, I don't want it.

For more than few seconds, cap should be always attached to one end of the pen. Anywhere else would be just weird. ... This is naturally just according to my narrow view of the world.

At the moment, my instrument of choice is a Pilot VP, so it's not really an option either way. When I break out the Esterbrook J I have, then I usually do post. I run into the same issue as stevlight, where a lot of pens are just too short otherwise.

If only writing a few lines, cap is in my left hand. If it's a longer writing session, cap is on the desk. I only ever posted in the dark days when I generally only used ball point pens. Habit never followed through when using a fountain pen.

I never post - somehow that's akin to drinking wine out of a plastic cup - and usually place the cap on the tyable in front of me while Im writing. If I'm at work I push my keyboard forward and place the cap above the keys.

You would think that this would be a simple question BUT I realized that this wasn't the case especially after i purchased more and different pens. Plus it matters to me as to the situation. The cap screws onto the end of my Starwalker so I psot it most of the time. But if it's just a quick usagee I just hold the cap in my left hand. On some caps the pocket clip extends past the end so it won't stand up on it's own and must be laid down. Other things that cloud the issue are weight and length. I don't post my heavier pens(Levenger Metalist) or longer ones(Lamy Safari). To each his own.

I sometimes hold it in the left hand, sometimes post it. Depends on the pen and/or situation. Rarely put it on the desk.

I very rarely post a pen cap. It scratches up the pen and is just one more step to have to take. I usually write for short periods such that it would take more time to do anything with the cap other than hold it in my other hand, so that is where my cap usually resides.

Pretty much me to a T. When I first got a fountain pen, I thought I would post them, and did for a while. But now, I don't write for that long, and it just seems more like a fountain pen, when I hold the cap in my hand.

For me, most pens are balanced best with the cap posted. I have a handmade pen (by me...) that is extremely heavy, which I like, but I cannot post the cap. The pen body is just a might too short to be comfortable for lots of writing.

I never post and I usually old the cap with my non writing hand, or place it on the desk. I do not like to post my pens for a number of reasons.

I put the cap on the desk. I don't post. I find it makes pens top/rear heavy (and it's another step and it eventually scratches the barrel).

For me, it depends on the pen. I've found, though, that if I tweak a nib to write with the cap posted, it invariably does not write as well (sometimes dramatically so) if I don't post. With some pens, though, it doesn't make any difference I can perceive.

Then, too, some pens just feel obviously unbalanced with the cap posted. And of course there are a few whose caps can't be posted in the first place. I feel like chiding those gently, but I realize we all have our quirks.

If I don't post, and generally anymore I prefer not to, while when younger I tried always to post -- then I worry about forgetting where I lay the cap down. I try to put it in a conspicuous spot, but conspicuous spots are at a premium at my place. So I worry a lot.

It depends on the pen and personal preference really.

If its a big pen like the Montblanc 149, I don't post. If it's a parker 51, yes, and most other pens, yes.

With short pens I post the cap so I can get the top of it to rest properly on my hand, otherwise I tend to hold the cap in my left hand. Then I fiddle with the cap whilst thinking/writing, turning it around and over in my hand. It helps me concentrate.

More and more I seem to hold cap in my left hand and roll it around as I write. Reminds me of Bogart as Captain Queeg in The Caine Mutiny. I'M NOT CRAZY!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
