where do you put the cap

hiya all, when i was at school many moons ago.

i was always told that when you write with a fountain pen, you should always place the cap on the desk. hummm.

so i was wondering, do you have the cap posted, or not whilst writing.

 

as for me , i will leave it on the desk. as i find it top heavy otherwise.

It depends on the pen, my Parker 51 I always post the cap. I have a larger pen from Brian Gray that I don't post it.

I almost always post the cap. I have a three pens that become unbalanced in my hand when the cap is posted and I have one pen that the cap will not post. Other than those four pens, I always post the cap when writing.

I almost always write unposted and leave the cap on the test. Almost all my pens I find more comfortable and more balanced in that way. The exceptions are some short pens that are too short to use uncomfortably without posting.

I post most of my pens but for the ones I don't, I usually clip the cap onto the top of the left page of my notebook (I only write on one side of the paper).

I almost always post my cap. It just feels better to me that way. And I am less likely to misplace the cap, which I have a habit of doing.

I also usually post. In the case of the pen feeling too top heavy posted, I hold the cap in my left hand. I find both pleasurable.

I've got to post, otherwise the M90 is way to short for me to use. Also, it keeps it balanced.

I have three pens I routinely post, all because they're too short for comfortable writing without doing so (one, a Gold Bond Ringtop from the mid-1930s, is almost too short even posted). For all my others, I either hold the cap in my other hand, or leave it in a secure location nearby (table top, etc.).

I almost always post the cap. The only pen I sometimes don't post is my Huron, not because its too long but the cap isn't secure when posted.

I always post, as long as the cap will stay posted. Some pens just don't like being posted.

Unless the pen is extremely short, I'll avoid posting the cap. It just feels right for me to hold the pen in one hand and the cap in the other.

I used to post religiously. (Read: often and eagerly, rather than in worship of invisible, wrathful folk.)

 

Now I keep the cap on the desk, in close reach. I'm so fond of my M215, I'd prefer not to tarnish the sheen witha post-mark.

I very rarely post a pen cap. It scratches up the pen and is just one more step to have to take. I usually write for short periods such that it would take more time to do anything with the cap other than hold it in my other hand, so that is where my cap usually resides.

I tend to hold the cap in my left hand while I write because I'm used to small desks at universities, but I will set it down if I'm at a larger work space. I do have a few pens that I post, but for the most part, I'm toying with the cap while I'm trying to think out a thought. :roflmho:

The cap is designed to be posted on the pen to give it the correct balance. A pen is, incidentally, made to be used and to be avoided being scratched.

I will not buy a pen that is not balanced when posted.

 

I started posting when drawing with more then one pen and not wanting to lose the caps. i also have large hands and need the extra length as i hold my pens very far back--never on the section!
