Mont Blanc Cartridge pens

Emma

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm still basking in the glory of my new MB147 Traveller, which I adore. I've only ever used piston fillers, and it's just so nice to have a cartridge pen for work and not have to fiddle around with bottles of ink. I love piston fillers, of course, and there's something wonderful about filling my MB32 from an ink bottle when I have a bit of time; but I'm cartridges all the way when in the office.

So: my question for this forum is what other Mont Blanc cartridge pens are out there, and equally smooth writers to the 147? The question is more out of interest than because I'm thinking of buying at the moment, but it would be good to know what's available when I get the new pen itch...

Thanks all.

Emma

The Chopin 145 is a converter/cartridge pen. This makes this a very versatile pen in that you can ink via bottle at home and cartridge at work or on the move. An interesting side note is that the pen will hold a second cartridge (upside down)inside it as well as the one in use.

Attention to details is often the difference between mediocre and magnificent.

jar, being much quicker on the key pad than I has already mentioned the 145 - sorry.

Don't forget the Carerra and VIP fountain pen models, also cartridge/converter pens... :)

Wow, thanks everyone! I had no idea there were so many cartridge-fillers out there. Any preferences from those who use them? And any of these a similar size to a 149 (i.e. big)?

Am busily looking up all the above pens on the FP Reviews page now...

Try to find one of the discontinued Bohème Big Size fountain pens.

Same pen as the regular small Bohème pens with the retractable nib but it has a MB 146 sized nib and MB 149 outer dimensions.

The Bohème Big Size turns up every so often on ebay or even on the marketplace on FPN.

With some patience you still should be able to find a nice, reasonable offer.

Cheers

Brilliant, thanks Michael. I officially have my next 'dream' pen in view...

I agree that the Boheme Big size is the best if you look for cartridge filler and you want a pen like the mb 149.

There is also the great retractable nib!

I owned 2 Boheme Big size and think they should be very good for you!

i sold them last year but now I think I will try to have another one....

Yup, they will take converters. I have had a Dupont converter in my Starwalker for several years. There are a number of threads on this topic discussing a number of other converters that work, also.

Don't forget the 'pretty' pens!

My Greta Garbo is a cartridge pen - although it will take a mini converter (but not the bantams). I use it with a mini converter most of the time because I like a choice of ink, but I can carry a couple of cartridges for if I run out.

I also have a Mozart which only takes cartridge.

My friend has a Marlene Dietrich which is a cartridge pen - I've never ascertained if that takes a mini converter because she is more than happy with her cartriges.

And then there is the Ingrid Bergman - judging by it's size I guess this is a cartridge only pen also.

My five rules for living:

1. Free your heart from hatred, 2. Free your mind from worries, 3. Live simply, 4. Give more, 5. Expect less

My pens: MB Greta Garbo; MB 149; MB Mozart; Lamy Safari; Lamy Al-Star; Lamy Joy

My work: Bid Writing, Copywriting and more!

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
