Romet Pens

Judybug

Recommended Posts

I'd like to hear some opinions on Romet pens. I searched in Reviews and saw a post [April 2006] by someone who ordered two, and both came with bad nibs. This person posted later and said he was pleased with the service.

Anyway, are there any more Romet owners out there? What's your opinion of this pen? My tongue is hanging out :P for the Romet Asia in tangerine, but I'm a little put off by the above-mentioned post. I hope somebody can give some positive comments about Romet nib quality.

So many pens, so little time!

I am not sure of Romet, but if you want some real nice colors...try Laban. Nice resins. Nibs are Iridium nibs(smooth B's) but you can top up for Gold nibs.

I like the look of the Laban's as well. I have a couple of Mento's (I think that's the model name). These are the ones with the steel nib and, really, they wrote pretty well. The resins are nice looking. I got one in the green marble and one in Pumpkin Seed. The only thing you should really know is that you NEED to plug the vent hole inside the cap (either with clear nail polish or wax) or the nib will dry out very easily.

Sorry, I guess you asked about Romet's

hi

I wrote the negative review of Romet you mentioned. I bought two Romet fountain pens. The first one I dipped was so-so. I returned it.

The second one I inked, and it was so bad it literally ripped the paper. There was some really large burr on the side of the tipping material. I could not get a refund because I had inked it, so I emailed Romet and got a rollerball unit and sent back to them the nib.

The person I spoke with at Romet was very nice and helpful.

Now let's be honest. I tried two of their pens. Maybe I got the only two they made that month that were inferior? I hate to blast an entire company based on having tried two pens! In some ways, that does not seem fair to them. But the one nib that was so bad should never have passed even a basic QC.

The plastic was nice looking, the finish very nice but very simple, much like Laban.

I would say give it a try but buy from some place that will take a refund on an inked pen. Then all you can lose is your postage both ways.

Hope this helps. j

One I sent back and got a refund on. Then other one I could not return because I ha

If the pen was defective (large burr on nib) they should have replaced it whether it was inked or not. Not a refund, but a repair or replacement.

I don't know anything about the pen, or about whether you bought it from a dealer or direct from the manufacturer, but if not replacing a defective pen or nib because you inked it, even though it was defective upon purchase, is their policy, I would not give them my business again.

Well, phooey! When you're in love - like I am with that tangerine Romet - you want people to say nice things about the object of your affection! Just kidding, just kidding. ;) I really am trying to be objective, so I appreciate everybody's comments - and espcially the account of your experience, John. It is hard to think of benign circumstances that would account for both the pens you ordered being bad. But, hey! anything is possible. Maybe the QC person was zonked out on flu medication that day and has either recuperated or been fired since.

I agree, Andy, that with an obvious defect like a burr on the nib, the dealer should have been willing to take this pen back even though it had been inked. So I will be forewarned to have a frank discussion with the seller before I buy one of these.

I had hoped to just drop a few hints to hubby and find this Romet under the Christmas tree, but now it's a little too complicated for that.

Caboose & DPC, thanks for letting me know about Laban pens. I've looked at them on several websites. They really are nice and come in some beautiful colors -- but not that gorgeous Romet tangerine! :( But I may consider a Laban anyway.

Thanks for all the input!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
