Venting at FexEx

They were supposed to deliver a pen to me today. But instead of ringing the doorbell, they left a doortag and now I have to wait til 7pm to pick up the pen at the FedEx office. There are two cars in the driveway for gosh sake! And I was sitting waiting for the delivery.

:( FedEx is the worst! :bawl:

End of rant. I will have to wait til 7pm!

You might want to try calling them; sometimes you can have them sent back out earlier if there's availability.

Still, that sucks! We call our guy, "Ding Dong Ditch," because he bolts as soon as the doorbell is pressed--if he bothers doing that at all. He mostly just leaves it by the door without doing that, or he puts it out by the garage door, where of course it's impossible to tell if he's been there or not. :bonk:

Oh I called them and they said I could wait for them to deliver it tomorrow, another 4 hour window of waiting or pick it up at 7pm tonight! What the package will be on a truck for 10 hours before it gets back to the office? Silence on the phone!

I'm cool with the drop-ring-ninja routine. I think UPS and USPS are training ninjas, deliveries always after dark and you never see the person who put the package against the door so you can't open it. :headsmack:

What is sad is the first notice i got that they had been there was checking the email tracking! :bonk:

On occasion I've taped a note to the front door: "UPS I AM home, knock loudly"...............hasn't failed me yet.

"how do I know what I think until I write it down?"

Funny, the other people in the house made the same suggestion as they tried to calm me down.

I am losing my sympathy for these people. I never use FEDEX unless the seller requires it.

Ok I need some tea.

These carriers are so under the gun to be time efficient that they miss the point of service. At home, both UPS and FedEx are in stealth mode. I asked one of them, on the rare occassion when I opened the door just as she was leaving the package, why they don't wait for an answer to the doorbell. She said that the time it takes to do and wait for an answer, multiplied by all the deliveries in the day when she did that, her delivery day would be extended several hours and that is unacceptable to management. I believe that the company business model forces the delivery person to be nimble, stealthy and unapproachable. Very frustrating considering the amount of money we spend on these delivery services. Seems like a rebate on the costs is in order when you are home and a package is not left and you need to take a call tag to their office. /Craig

Another sign of the end of civilization... Service providers so worried about speed that they don't provide service anymore! :roflmho: Would be funny if it were not so tragic!!! :ltcapd:

I feel your pain. But at least you know you'll be getting your shortly this evening. I bought a pen from Japan on the 21st and the seller shipped it with EMS, which usually takes 3-5 days. It shipped out of Japan on the 23rd and has been MIA since then - 6 days and counting. You're lucky you know where yours is!

Assuming it makes it back to the office after a 10 hour tour. Good luck with yours. Does the seller have tracking?

I had an EMS package sit in San Francisco for 5 days according to tracking! Never found out why

My family (my mom, my brother and his family, and I) all live on the same property. My brother's business is also located here. For better or worse, all our packages are delivere to my brother's busniess, whether USPS, UPS or FedEx. My brother knows all the carriers by name and at least packages are delivered. If my brother closes his store, I have no idea what delivery issues we might be facing. I keep hearing horror stories from a lot of other people in our small town. I wonder myself if service will ever get better.

True, well hopefully you get your pen tonight! What pen is it? Yup, the tracking information last updated on the 23rd when it left Japan. The USPS tracking is just messed up, since it claims my package hasn't even left Japan. I'm just hoping the tracking is wrong and it will miraculously arrive today.

First task for the new pen is to write to Fed-ups management and explain that you sat in waiting for the delivery, 2 cars in the drive and the first you knew of the ninja delivery driver was through tracking!

This happens over here with various carriers too. It is simply not good enough

But they will never know we are upset unless we tell them.

Does EMS from Japan have to go through US Customs? If so, it could sit there until someone gets around to looking at it.

We've been really lucky with both UPS and Fedex where we live. The drivers are courteous, and always take the time to at least wave, even though they are under a lot of pressure. Of course it helps that we don't have to rely on a doorbell. Our dogs try to remove the front door any time anyone comes near the porch. Come to think of it I wouldn't blame the delivery guys for ditching and running ...

Over Christmas UPS had a new idea here. They used the truck as a mother ship, and dispatched a delivery guy with a bicycle pulling a little cargo trailer. He would load up a street's worth of packages and pedal off while the mother ship handled a different street. Pretty neat.

I understand your frustration but FedEx and UPS drivers have guidelines that they need to follow when they make deliveries. Thankfully I live in a small town and they know to leave things for me - or they find me at work sometimes instead.

If it is from USPS - then they too have protocols. I have found that the USPS confirmation number is of little insurance - especially witha n international shipment. At best I find that there is an update for shipment information AFTER the item is actually delivered. Tracking info is not one of USPS's best things for some reason - when I HAVE to know where something is I use FedEx.

Now - to the important thing - what pen did you get and was it worth the additional wait??!!

I am going to be ordering a Custom 74 in from Japan, and hopefully I won't have all these problems. USPS does a great job and UPS is okay in my area.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
