New Moleskine

In my office notebook (that I use mostly on meetings/) were just a few empty pages left. I could wait for someone to give me a notebook (the standard New Year holiday procedure here is to give promotional notebooks and calendars to business partners and customers), however for some reason I ended up in the book and office material store this afternoon and after drooling over the pen section (they had Waterman and Parkers) I saw Moleskine notebooks...so I decided that I need one.

Here it is (together with a small one weekly planner that I bought in June)

The really good news is that the Pelikan 4001 / M800 combination works perfect.

More impressions to follow.

That looks like one doozy of a Swiss Army knife on your desk! I'm surprised there's not a fountain pen in there.... :eureka:

True. I have two of them. The red one even has a small BP. The reason that I have it is my father. My basic education is agronomy with major in fruit growing and when I was younger and worked with my father in the orchard on the farm we always had to tie young trees and cut the string and he was giving me hard time when I had no knife saying "a good fruit grower always carries a knife"....So I had no choice....

Indeed, a pocket should have a knife in it and the Swiss army seem to have cornered the market for the ideal pocket companion. I have... um... lots!

Like pens, they tend to accumulate :roflmho:

You'll get hooked on those Moleskine note books. Among other Moleskine books, I have 6 spare large MS notebooks. I mostly use Retro 51s and MB ftn pens with them.

I've heard rumours that the paper in Moleskine books is not always the greatest for FPs, true or false?

True - can be (mostly is) terrible. Some people on FPN love them - most have problems with varying paper quality from notebook to notebok. I am anti Moleskin generally but did buy one of the new A4 ruled and the paper is very good. If you like a particular Moleskin buy one and try it with your pen/ink combination. You may be lucky.

If the quality is that sketchy, what's the attraction?

I picked up one of these today, ruled (the close-to-8-1/2"x11" size), with the 100g/m^2 paper. I wrote a test page in the back with the 12 pens I have with me (lots of different pens, nibs, ink brands and colors, wet, dry, etc.). I am VERY impressed with the improvement on quality. I flipped through the entire rest of the book, seems to be the same smooth heavy paper throughout. While I have some Piccadilly notebooks set aside as future journals (though they are sometimes infuriating), I am seriously considering switching to these for my journal. It's pricier, but I'm supposed to enjoy writing, not be frustrated by it and feel like I can't journal with some wet/broad-nibbed pens...

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
