Are Noodler's Ink Safe

Nikhil

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Are Noodler's inks, except for the Bay State Series, as safe for your pen as other brands such as Aurora, Mont Blanc, and PR? A member on FPN says I am nuts to want a bottle of Noodlers Manhattan Blue because he says it will corrode and break my Dollar 717i. Is there truth to his statement, or was he misinformed. Are they more potent then all other inks?

I've had no problems at all with the regular Noodler's inks, and the only issue I've had with the bulletproof inks is nib creep.

Noodler's inks are actually safer than most inks for your pens as they are ph neutral. The only issue with some of the Noodler's colors is that they are thicker than other inks so a more regular cleaning schedule is needed to keep your pens writing merrily along. Otherwise with all the inks that you might use in your pens just make sure that you clean your pens regularly and you should have no problems.

Which inks are thicker? Are those the bulletproofs and the bay states

"Thicker" is not the right word, their colors are more saturated, as are Private Reserve inks.

My experience with Noodler's "bulletproof," "eternal," and non-water-resistant inks is the same as Flourish's. I haven't tried any Bay State inks.

if so many people are happy with their noodler's ink, I'm sure it is safe

Actually Noodler's inks not only cause random explosions, dissolve kitchen utensils and glue things tighter than cyanacrylate, they also consume the flesh and bones of FP users. If there are no survivors there are no complaints.

Uh...PH, I'm sure you're tired of folks asking if Noodler's Inks are safe...But, please, let's not incite another bunch of needless bickering replies!

Some will smile at your reply, and that's good, but unfortunately, you know what is likely to happen.

There's no way that Noodler's inks are going to corrode and break a fountain pen. I've been using them for more than 5 years and they haven't done anything bad to my pens.

My apologies. They are thicker because they are more saturated. Bulletproof Black is one of the more saturated Noodler's fountain pen inks. Then there's Polar Black that's slightly less saturated and the anti freezing ingredients also help with the inks flow in most pens that I have tried. Noodler's Eel Black is also slightly less saturated than BPB and the included lubricating ingredients help with ink flow slightly more than the Polar Black. Noodler's Heart of Darkness is also a heavily saturated ink. Is that better?

It would be nice to hear about the specific ink the OP mentions, but as far as I have seen, in my 2 1/2 years here, I have yet to hear anything about Manhattan Blue causing any problems in anyone's pens. Perhaps the specific FPN member who explained this to you can let us know their experience with this ink, and why they came to this conclusion.

You may want to read the two reviews of this ink on FPN: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41273 , and https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=68694, for further information and experience on this ink!

As far as my experience with the Noodler's inks I have tried: Polar Black, Antietam, Blue Ghost, Walnut, Black, and La Couleor Royale, I have yet to experience any damaging effects, a little nib creep (never minded this), a little feathering on certain paper, and smearing, but nothing you won't find in any other inks.

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! This question has been asked and I remember a very long (and sometimes rather violent) discussion about this very topic. I suggest you try and look for it, it was really informative.

As a casual collector with 8 bottles of Noodler's, I can affirm that they're safe. But concord bream isn't a good behaving ink. It bleeds more than a leukemia patient donating blood.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
