Smudge Guard

I purchased one of these after a friend recommended them for use with a Wacom tablet. A Wacom is a special computer input device for digital artists to "Draw" on its surface and the computer translates that onto the computer screen. A lot of artists have the problem that after a while of using the wacom the surface warms up and their hands start "sticking" to the wacom. Making it difficult for that smooth brushstroke they were about to make. Well this little piece of genius solves that problem. It provides a protective barrier between the hand and the wacom to help keep oil and sweat from causing their hands to stick and slip on their wacom.

But wait… there's more! (haha! sorry, I couldn't resist :))

Not ONLY is it good for digital artists, but it's great for traditional artists and lefties as well. It helps prevent finger oils from getting on paper and helps prevent smudging AND it keeps your hand cleaner. Also, not only is it great for artists… it is also wonderful for people who love to write on special stationary and journals for the same reasons above. It will help keep their skin oils off the paper that causes certain pens and inks to skip and not absorb properly into the paper that they had been writing on. I use mine while writing in my journal with my fountain pen.

The Smudge Guard™ Story

Hi! My name is Jeannie and I'm a lefty and so is my young son. He started coming home from school with GRAPHITE SMUDGES on the side of his left hand and I HATED that! When I was in college, I had the exact same problem with ink smudges. So I tried to find a product out there to solve this problem but none was available.

So I decided to create my own product for my son and we called it "Smudge Guard™". It has eliminated the smudging problem for us when writing and drawing and so far, our little glove has helped many fellow left-handers, creative artists, and others too!

I have a lavender Smudge Guard and I love it, now I want another one. I've been trying to hint to my husband to get me a black one as a gift. *nudge nudge, hint hint* http://blog.trish-art.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

The only thing I can recommend is that you make absolutely sure you get the correct measurements. If you are unsure of your size you can email them to get help with your measurements to get the correct size. The owner is a wonderful lady. =) By all rights mine should have been a size "Small" but because my fingers are long, I needed a size "Medium" to keep my hand and pinky finger from hurting while wearing it.

I'd be concerned about the thing scratching the plastic on a Wacom or other tablet; McMaster-Carr has ambidextrous cotton jersey work gloves for about a buck a pair, and a little work with scissors would give you two custom "smudge guards." :-)

The smudge guard looks like a good product. I have struggled with oils and moisture from my hands transferring to the writing paper and interfering with the ink flow from the pen I am using. To combat this, I have always used a half sheet of plain copy paper as a writing guard. I place the guard under the line that I am writing so that I do not actually touch any unwritten area of the document paper. Works well for me and is vitually cost free./Craig

I quite like the look of the Smudge Guard, although I think I'd feel a bit of a prat when I got up from my desk to walk around the office still wearing it.......

It kind of looks like a billiards glove that someone's put on backwards. It would do the same thing, and you can get them at any sports shop that sells billiards stuff. Dick's Sporting Goods is the one that comes to mind from around here. They only cost a few dollars, and I think the only problem would be that most of them are made with silk and might be a bit slippery on some papers.

There are a lot of different options out there. :) Most of those y'all have mentioned I didn't even think about.

Needless to say, I do like my smudge guard and wanted to post a review of it. =)

The cotton gloves actually sound like a really good idea since that is a more breathable material than the spandex of the smudge guard.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
