Thanks, but there is still room for improvement. I dislike the refection on the nib. And in the cap you could first see the tripod. Argh!

Everything can always be improved and we are often too harsh on ourselves. I enjoyed your shot - you don't have to point out its flaws. wink.gif

I'm sorry, I should have resized that, I see in the rulebook now. I thought the forum would resize it as it added it!

At least now you can see the Porsche pen on a molecular level ;)

And yes, it appears I didn't adjust my date!!! been a hectic few months, and of course it thinks there are 31 days in every month.

Greeting, Gang! I just recently found the Fountain Pen Network and I'm looking forward to catching up with as much of the activities in the forums as I can.

To get things started, though, I thought I'd share some photos of a few pens I have in my collection.

I've been collecting and using (on a daily basis) fountain pens for about six years now. Pocket watches, I've been collecting for just a little longer.

Hi Judland,

I admire a guy who owns a pocket watch. I admire him more if he wears it. Do you? I wear mine.

Your two hunter-case watches look rather modern, though. What are they? You got any more?

Thanks, Shangas. Yes, I wear them most days of the week (I wear the wrist watch once a week or so - but prefer my pocket watches).

None of the watches in my collection are antiques, but I like them very much none-the-less. However, the chain on the watch in the first photo is an antique.

The watches I have in my collection are made by Donato, Colibri, Relic, Cardinal and I even have one made by Coleman (it's a sort of "Outdoors Man" pocket watch, which I thought was very unique - it even incorporates some wood in to the hunter case). Some of them are battery powered and some are spring powered.

The watch in the first photo is a Donato, and the second one is a Colibri.

Here's my "flight certified" combo in honor of today's successful shuttle launch. The G-Shock 5600 is flight certified for shuttle flight but not for EVA. The bullet Space Pen was an unexpected gift from a FPN friend.

Best thread ever!

Since I don't quite have time to set a proper shoot up, I'll compensate while I procrastinate, by posting a bit of watch porn, as it were.

This is the inner workings of a Zentih pocket watch, that used to belong to my fathers grandfather, on his mothers side (I think). Dated 1896 (or was it 1906, can't recall). Most excellent watch, runs better than my (now dead) digital Casio.

"Real" picture to follow...

I have seen several pocket-watch regulators in my time...but never one like that. How the heck does it work!? :roflmho:

Well, I honestly don't know. All I can say is that it's Swiss, and works really well... ^^

Rotating the gradated wheel at A shifts the regulator lever at B by means of a concentric cut-out connected to a cam beneath the lever. By adjusting the effective length of the balance spring (at the attachment of the spring to the stud carrier at C) the rate of the watch is changed. Rotating the wheel toward R will slow down the rate, while rotating it toward F will speed it up. D is a 'swan-neck spring', which maintains tension on the regulator lever to facilitate more precise adjustment.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
