Anyone like Herbin inks in their MBs? How is flow, and what are your favorite standard (blue, blue black, black) and other colors?

What's the volume and price/bottle?

Jeen...

I am a proud user of several MB 146s and 149s who is also a big fan of Herbin inks. I am especially fond of the following combinations:

-Perle Noire in my 149 and gold trim 146

-Bleu Nuit in my Unicef 146

-Poussiere de Lune in my platinum trim 146

I find the flow and drying time of all of these inks to be outstanding. They lay down a nice line in all 4 pens (EF, F, F, M) and are easy to clean.

Jeen...

Sure, happy to take a shot.

- Perle Noire is a black ink with an elegant, rich sheen to it. It reflects rather than absorbs light. Think black pearls: round, subtle, classy.

- Bleu Nuit appears to me to be like the sapphire used to adorn the Unicef pen. I don't know if you have ever had the experience but it reminds me of the color of the morning sky around 5AM just below the horizon - the sun is not up yet so the sky above is still black but there is this blue hue at the horizon.

- Poussiere de Lune is a dusty, grayish purple. Like the moon at midnight covered by a haze.

Here is a link to a website with some nice swatches of all the colors:

Hope this helps.

Maine,

Could you describe the colors of the inks you mentioned? Thanks!

Loved your descriptions.

I agree, wondeful desciptions. I have enjoyed that blue before dawn on camping trips, and I'm going to try the bleu nuit!

I have a couple of J. Herb and scented inks and I really didn't care for them. I'll have to try some of their regular inks and see how they are.

J. Herbin inks are great. I like Perle Noire, Blue Myosotis, Cafe des Isles, Vert Empire and Poussiere de Lune.

For those of you who like MB Racing Green, you should give Herbin Vert Empire a try.

Thanks for the additional suggestions Juan.

The bottles look small. Anyone transfer to a larger bottle? I'm thinking a 149 might not get many fills from the original bottle.

Yes, that must be their main drawback. Lately I can only find Pelikan black (my favorite ink) in small bottles, so I buy the Cross version. This is nonsense since Pelikan also makes piston fillers; a M1000 should be able to suck one of these bottles in a couple of fills.

When I buy ink, I get 3 or 5 bottles, but with Herbin I should get some more.

Thank you for the feedback on the descriptions; this is a fun thread.

I agree with the bottle suggestions - buy multi and combine in a MB

or old Parker Quink bottle. I like the MB inks, too, but they don't offer

The range of color Herbin has.

~ Where I live Herbin inks aren't readily available.

I've only used Montblanc inks un Montblanc pens.

The half a dozen Parker 51s I use are inked with various Diamine inks.
