Why Does Montblanc Have Such A Bad Rap Anyway?

YOU ARE OVERPAYING FOR THE PEN. Really 80% of the cost of the pen is BRAND NAME

Fair enough. You think other pen manufacturers are any different?

Do you think it costs Sailor much much more to produce the King of Pen which is a c/c filler and the same list price as the 149?

Do you think is costs Visconti much much more to produce the Black Divina which is the same list price as a 146?

They aren't reliable, I have seen from posts I have read. Also, like you said MontBlanc is a RIP OFF ARTIST. I sure the nib miesters know what there talking about whic proves my point, YOU ARE OVERPAYING FOR THE PEN. Really 80% of the cost of the pen is BRAND NAME (you get the priveledge of owning a MontBlanc Pen. I they want to play off the they should make sure their pens are reliable first!

I own some MBs that are three decades old and are perfect writers. I am not going to take your opinion in consideration because I am not sure your a mb owner and I am not sure you have used MB customer service before. I inherited one MB, the rest I bought them in second at my favorite penshop.I never had a leak or an inkflow issue. I would rather stick to MB than to some other brands which reliability is questionnable.

Too funny. Let's talk about reliability.

You claim that "Really 80% of the cost of the pen is BRAND NAME (you get the priveledge of owning a MontBlanc Pen."

Okay.

BUT... here you make the claim that "Half of the price of the pen is the brand name."

I do notice in your defense that the former assertions was made about 20 minutes after the latter so the difference could be the result of inflation.

No, thats the thing. They cost around the same. The problem is when a pen company becaomes really famous they overprice there pens feeling they can get away with it because of their brand name.

There are many other companies who have far better reliability than Mont Blanc like Pelikan, who I have two pens from one vintage and one new, and which write flawlessley. I have seen some people with Mont Blanc Reliability issues and even if they're slightly more reliable, you are really going to pay hundreds or even a thousan dollars more for just that?

It depends, not set in stone, AT LEAST half is the brand name, in other MB models it could be EVEN MORE.

Name please pen companies that for instance make better pens than MB ? Pelikan is priced cheaper than MB but their quality is equal. Most of people here in this forum and on fpn are happy MB users. I am not considering Aurora, Sailor, Pilot, Parker and Waterman as better than MB. The only pen brands that make piston fillers that can be compared to MB are Omas, Stipula, Montegrappa, CS and Krone.I also take care in consideration the after sales service.

And Montblanc is unique in this and all the other pen companies are doing us a favour and losing money on their pens? Quite frankly, I see nothing in your argument that shows Montblanc is better or worse than any other major pen maker out there.

C'mon guys. This person is clearly a troll. Even more so than that cat in the other thread.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

mkkm19912002, you have clearly made your point SEVERAL times already, in SEVERAL other threads. You feel Montblanc is a ripoff. Fine. That said, your continued pushing of your point is creating unnecessary tension with those who feel otherwise. If you don't like these pens, then don't dwell on them in the MB forum. Simple as that. Do I make myself clear?

Why does Montbanc get such a bad rap anyway?

People fear what they don't understand. I wouldn't be concerned about MB getting a bad rap. If possible, it's best do ignore such comments. Reactions to the comments will only reinforce what is said, and will encourage such disturbed behavior.

Don't worry, be happy.

Please share your stories and experiences. This should be interesting.

Yes, Wery Interesting!

Yes, anyone can take cut through a 146 with a saw.

Montblanc will rebuild and completely repair this pen for a very reasonable price.

I will gladly take this pen off your hands. Don't throw it out.

I love my 149 I love all my MB's

Matt

I do too, just not blindly...as a few here would like to assume of me.

In my case, it's unconditional love - at this point.

MB makes good quality pens with great marketing. I enjoy just looking at some MB models but they are over-priced. They have succeeded in getting people to buy their product as a status symbol and now are making more luxury items such as watches, wallets, belts and so forth. Cross is following them in this regard, and Parker may also.

Regards,

I am only interested in their pens. Their jewellery, their leather goods and their watches don't speak to me.

The jewelry and other stuff keeps the brand alive.

IMHO, reverse fanboys are those who cant bear having the same pen as a "non connoisseur"

(same guys as the anti Cohiba cigars because thats the brand everyone assumes with cigars and anti rolex because that's the one watch people associate with nice watches)

I like Montblancs, but...

I also like Viscontis, Parker 51s, and anything by Dupont!

Waterman Carenes are amazing too...

About the OP's question... I don't have enough, (okay, any) experience so I'm not getting into that.

But I guess to each his own!

This thread has been closed because it has fallen into exactly the sort of argument mentioned in the "MONTBLANC FORUM RULES" post that appears pinned at the top of this forum.

The relevant section of the rules is as follows:

Incendiary posts, also known as "trolling", "stirring the pot" or "flamebait": Posts with content designed to produce an outraged, defensive response are not allowed. In this forum, these posts often are strongly based on outrage over Montblanc cost, perceived value, pen brands in the Third Reich and during World War Two, prestige issues, claims about quality, and the perceived or actual social class of MB owners, or the alleged social-climbing of MB owners. These posts often include calls to "prove" things about MB product quality or value. Sometimes there are attempts to "convert" MB owners away from the brand, and often a fair bit of insult, overt or subtle, is included.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
