Hari,

Nice Solitaire Doue! I'm very fond of the combination of black resin, sterling cap and gold trim.

The only Doue I have is one of the Aurora 88. I hope to get the MB 75th anniversary 146 Doue one day.

I'm pretty sure that you already know that this pen is a pale imitation of our much beloved MB Meisterstuck.

But for $12US I'm sure it will write properly and that you may get some use out of it.

And may this be a lesson to us all....there are many MBs out there...and many many more replicas!

Is it really fake? The thought did enter my mind briefly...

Lovley pen, like the rose gold, but the price, WOW, are you serious, is this a genuine MB!

OK then, I'm game.... As a complete MB novice, what are we highlighting here as the most obvious evidence of fakery.....?

Ok, from what I see:

Odd shaped star on the top of the cap.

The trim ring at the end of the barrel seems too wide.

Fake converter.

The flourishes on the nib are wrong.

And if I were a little more experienced, the feed might have been a clue.

I agree with some of what PRG said above. But if fake, this is an excellent fake and quite scary for buyers. Will the owner please elaborate on this?

Dear PRAG,

the feed for the Solitaire Doue as new is vertically grooved with 3 channels. Assuming that was changed the width of the first fin after the ink hole is a bit too thick - they should be of equal thickness or almost.

Stay well,

Hi Everone, yes this pen is a fake originating from China, I came across this pen in the local market and it was sold to me as a fake, however I bought the pen just to document it and share here as an example of an extremely well made fake and if it were on an ebay auction, probably impossible to determine with some off-focus photos.

And may this be a lesson to us all....there are many MBs out there...and many many more replicas!

True, we have to watch out! The fakers are improving and probably this example is their state of the art?

Andrew, the most obvious giveaway here is the shoddy 925 hallmark and the fudged STOD logo for a person like me who has never handled the real version of this pen. The usual fakery indicators like the clip button has been mimicked very well, the star is pretty well made and looks genuine, the nib is an exact copy of the one on the Chopin?, I do not have one to compare closely so I took the detailed photos, so pls give your inputs. The section threads are missing the metal afterpart as GVL pointed out in a seperate thread, the converter looks like the genuine item but does not have the threads to secure to section. The feeder looks close to original

Exactly why I made this post.

However the pen writes very well, but I have no plans to use it. I hope my 12USD investment will be useful to keep our members better informed.

Best,

Hari

When initially looking at the photos, I thought the pen might be a knock off. Of course, having read through the thread, I now know it is. What threw me off was the nib. I am accustomed to seeing IPG nibs on fakes. This nib is such a good copy it is scary!

Dear Hari,

that is a good fake but when you are in China the next time, particularly Shanghai, get the local tour guide to bring to stores selling the 'mirror image' counterfeits (various brands and articles). That's when the fun begins.

As an OT the manager of a local Mulberry outlet told me she could not differentiate a 'mirror image' handbag from the real article.

Stay well,

Solomon

On closer inspection the cap's fit and finish looks wrong. But from a cursory look it looks passable.

Thanks for the valuable lesson Hari.

That is a very close copy. For someone who is not into MB pens and wanted to get a good deal on one, they would be fooled easily, and I don't think that even the pen enthusiast could blame them.

Just wanted to add that the section ring looks a bit off too.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
