Dallas Pen Show

The Write Pen

Recommended Posts

Hello, all:

I stopped in the Dallas Pen Show today (my first pen show) during lunch hour. I thought that I would just look around and talk to a few people and maybe pick up some interesting inks. I didn't even get past the first table where I found an inexpensive vintage Conklin pen with an amazing EF flexible nib. I had no idea how nice a flex nib can write. Plunk, down goes the cash.

I almost didn't make it past the entrance when I saw a new Parker Sonnet Cisele pen (this is on my short list), but managed to make it inside without any additional expenditure of cash (aside from a donation to the organizers). Inside, I visited each table, looking especially (and unsuccessfully) for a Pelikan Shanghai pen that's on the top of my short list. I spent several minutes talking with Joel of Inkpen, who patiently explained how Parker Vacumatics and 51s are valued. I saw some really nice Vacumatics that were, unfortunately, not in the budget. I also saw a very cool Pelikan M350 similar to the Shanghai (M350 is a tiny tiny pen).

I had a nice chat with the lady giving handwriting lessons (no time to take one, this time) and, as time was rapidly running out, visited Pendemonium to get some inks. I picked up two of their Noodler's exclusives (Legal Lapis and The Violet Vote) and a bottle of J. Herbin Cafe des Iles. After that, I made one more run through the silent auction and made a bid on a set of calligraphy nibs that caught my eye.

Fun way to spend a lunch hour.

I made it there to. I arrived at 10 this morning to be sure that Danny could repair my pens. My Sheaffer snorkel will be ready to be filled Sat. morning. He showed me how to clean and get my pens flowing again. I got some ink from Pendemonium, some Pelikan short intl. cartridges and some Auora black. I was also one that got a free bottle of Noodlers Texas Bluebonnet Blue ink, courtesy of Dromgoole's.

I would personally like to thank Danny at TheWritePen for his help and wisdom. Danny, I was the one in the cowboy hat that brought my father-in-law along.

We were there on Saturday. Had a blast! It was my first pen show and there was lots to digest. Got to see some of these pens I've been reading about in person and of course I spent way too much money. but I got two nice little Tuckaways and a Snorkel. I got to see the Balances in person too, they're really pretty pens......I wish the show would've been on Sunday too so we could've gone back and looked more.

But now I've got something to look forward to. But don't think I can wait a whole 'nother year!

I had a great time at the show and want to thank every one that came by to say hi so we could put a face to some of our FPN friends! I ended up with 3 new pens from trades and one pen I never thought I would be able to afford. A great time was had by all!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
