FPs and mountain passes

How hard was it to get that apart? Friction fit, or soem adhesive? My mind is spinning with ideas for a replacement feed.

John, the nib carrier is friction fit, it will pull out. Check out my old post on this.

Well, as promised I managed a small detour on the way back home.

Just a 150 km and 3 hour more  and I was able to fit a couple of minor passes plus the Stelvio in.

Wow, the view and your photgraphy is stunning.

Cheers,

Hari

Beautiful photo of a lovely place.

Thanks much for posting it, and this thread.

May you have pens you enjoy, with plenty of paper and ink. :)

All thats needed to complete the Stelvio picture is the soundtrack of a hard driven Alfa Giulia laid on top...

or a Maserati Mistral... or a plain Fiat 500!!!!

A quick thought to add to the experiment - when you said you filled the Parker 51 Aero "100%", did you clean the collector after filling it? In other words, did you give it one last squeeze , then pull it out of the ink to let the sac reflate - thus sucking excess ink out of the hood and collector? I have had P51s disgorge ink into the cap when I have failed to do this - even without air pressure changes.

Just a thought.

John

So if you have a lot of ink,

You should get a Yink, I think.

  • 1 year later...

Couple of years later, last Saturday I had a chance to celebrate my 50th birthday with a long solitary motorbike trip to the same passes (13 hours and 720km total, 500km on the highway and 220km "in the mountains" - uncountable U-turns rolleyes.gif).

Did not take FP pics, but took three pens with me "for scientific research" and to keep a short diary.

Here are the results when I arrived at the Stelvio Pass (2.760m):

Pelikan M1005 clear demo, Noodler's Navy

No problems at all.

TWSBI Diamond 540 ROC 100, MB White Forest

Couple drops in the cap.

Pilot Custom 823 clear, Noodler's Zhivago

When I opened the shutoff valves, the pen spat out a couple drops of ink,

I had to clean nib and feed of excess ink.

Beware if you open it in an airplane...

No problem at all when I got back at home.

Test conditions:

Pens fully filled, nib up, clipped inside my bike jacket inner pocket.

Temperature was decreasing as altitude increased, so this made the test a bit less hard.

It was a torture test in term of vibrations (@ 140km/h my bike generate quite a lot of high frequency vibrations, plus lower frequency shaking caused by the wind).

What's the name of the town in the photo ?

Hard to remember, but it was a small village along SS38 (Val Venosta). Could be Oris.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
