Did Mont Blanc ever make a burgundy colored Meisterstuck?

I just bought a MB on ebay. I have one MB that I know is genuine, but I decided I wanted a burgundy colored one as well. I was looking all over the MB website and I never saw any pen that came in burgundy. The seller says this pen was given to him/her in 1985. Some other signs also led me to believe it's a real pen. Just wondering about the color.

Anyone know if MB every made a burgundy colored pen?

Yes, indeed they did. My first MB was a burgandy one and I believe I purchased it back in the 80s. It was by far my favorite.

Mont Blancs used to come in a variety of colors: burgundy, coral red, a variety of nice celluloid, yellow, gold, silver. Now, not so much. Too bad.

They only come in two trims now? Gold and chrome?

I assume its to keep up that image of a "luxury" brand. I mean ,to the general populace, would a yellow pen look high class?

The burgundy ones were pretty recent. Some stores still have them, even though they've been discontinued.

I think MB like to say "platinum" not chrome. I assume it is indeed platinum at that price! I'm sure it is, because the trim is softer in colour than chrome and it lacks the cold harshness that chrome has (at least to my eye).

I'm not really an MB aficionado but I believe at least both the MB 252 and the 146 have been around in burgundy, if I'm not mistaken.

Ahh, Mike, I think I have found my shopping list for the future... Beautiful, timeless and modern pens without unneccessary bling.

I don't mean to hijack this thread so I would appreciate a shortest possible PM identifying your pen models (I do recognize the grey Omas), if you don't mind me asking.

look around the metal ring that holds the clip. Should have the serial number laser etched. You might need a loupe to see it.

Thanks for all the responses! I am looking forward to receiving it. I'll try to post some pictures if I can.

I suppose if it's not all I hoped for, I can always re-sell it on ebay.

Mont Blanc did not make a burgundy pen.... tee hee... actually they called it Bordeaux.

I have a PF, BP and RB 144 in Bordeaux.

I don't know whether they ever made one as a fountain pen but I have owned a burgundy Mont Blanc ballpoint pen for many years. Here are a couple of photos (from eBay...they're a bit dark but definitely burgundy) that looks like my ballpoint:

By the way, there are many bordeaux (i.e. burgundy) Montblancs that will not have serial numbers, as MB only started adding the serial numbers around 1991, and the bordeaux color was in use in previous decades.

I bought this one from an authorized MB dealer around 1992 and have been using it ever since. I believe it was new old stock and on clearance as I paid about $75 for it. Long since discontinued from what the MB boutique here in Denver has told me.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just bought a Bordeaux RollerBall from my local Boutique...they only have RB's now, but they cost less than the Black and Gold variety. I believe all the types of writing instruments came in the Bordeaux colour, even LeGrand sizes...

I bought a 149 (F) in Burgundy from a Mont Blanc shop in Hong Kong in 1993. Still my favourite pen. Beautifully smooth writer (I'm a lefty)
