I have a Jaguar ball point pen. I like the pen and especially the clip. It's a bit heavy, but I like that. I dropped it once and it exploded. The twist mechanism came apart, due to two important parts being epoxied together. I would expect that to fail on all the ball points pens, eventually. Granted, I dropped it, but I like to think it would survive that. The finish on the pen is very nice, perfect in fact. Nice pen. I'm glad I have it.

They are made by the Italian company Aquila Brands, but possibly produced in China. However, the Aquila family is a first mover in the industry (since the 30s) and they managed to keep an high quality product in the years.

Between the other brands they have is Tibaldi, Lalex and Ducati.

Cheers,

That seems like a reasonable price for that pen, not like what they were charging for them before. I've started to prefer vintage pens and integrated fillers more, but if you like them, go for it.

Nice find on the price. A few years ago I would have definitely gotten one.

I am almost finished my review of a Jaguar fountain pen; I just need to take pictures. For $75 it might be worth picking one up, but the regular retail price is ridiculous. A quick summary of my forthcoming review is below.

Here are the good points:

Smooth, fine line (even though it's a Medium)

Built like a tank

Stiff nib can be used to play darts or puncture tires

Here are the bad points:

Heavy

Unbalanced

Very uncomfortable shape, and huge step-up from section to barrel

Section "grip" is smooth, small, and too close to the nib

Won't post well (and is really too heavy to post anyway)

Most converters won't fit properly (either too long or the twist handle binds up)

Cap falls off constantly (it's only about a turn and a quarter)

Dries up after a few hours capped

Questionable QC (Mine came with a crooked clip)

Stiff nib can be used to play darts or puncture tires

Thanks Neill. $65 is what it will run but for $40 more, Im going with the Delta 365 then

Most likely a better investment.

  • 4 weeks later...

Very interesting to see that there are multiple places selling these pens. I also noter that there are gold nibbed versions available, for more money of course. Unfortunately, it seems like the site mentioned no longer sells the FPs, so does anyone know of anywhere in the world where I can buy one for a decent price?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
