Have I lost me bleedin' mind?

The post was about a pen being sent from a reputable vendor to me FULL OF INK.

I'll bite my tongue.

Stuff happens I guess.

I fly all over the country for my job and take cartridge filler fountain pens with me instead of bottle fillers because they don't typically leak ink due to cabin pressure changes in airplanes. I am surprised a cartridge filler pen leaked but I guess it does happen. I've had several dealers ship me piston fill and cartridge filler pens full of ink and they did not leak. Sorry to hear about your experience but it does sound like they got your pen fixed.

My Nakaya came from the factory with a mostly full cartridge fitted. I had asked them to check and tune the nib before sending. No problems to report - and bonus ink for me!!! :cloud9:

Could very well make a big difference on how a pen travels or is packed.

Mine came back in a small rectangular styrofoam box I had shipped it in (I had wrapped it in just enough bubblewrap <not much necessary, it was a small box> so the pen didn't jostle all around.) It came to me in a baggie. That's all. It had about 1" vertical and about 6"x2" space to bounce all around in during it's cross country ride.

I'm careful about how I pack my pens when they need to be sent out. I like them to be securely packed (or repacked using my materials) when I get them back. Loose in a baggie wouldn't do it for me!

That's business as usual when you buy on ebay, unfortunately... I remember purchasing an Aurora 88 Duo-cart: it was fitted with an international cartridge (which should not be used) and the cap was similar to a swimming pool...

Trust Me! If this had been from Ebay, I would have completely understood...

So far as I know, I've never done this. I consider it something of a miracle. :)

I've only sold or traded a couple of pens to or with FPN members, always taking extaordinary precautions to package them beyond what's really needed.

I've send FPN friends filled ink cartridges and sample bottles of inks too and not once have I had anyone say they didn't arrive in perfect condition, all have arrived fully intact without a single leak.

By no means am I a vendor of any kind, I have never done this for a living either but seems to me those that are or do so should know better than to ship fountain pens in such a poor manner.

If I were to ship you a pen, that was full of ink [that is if you wanted the same ink shipped to you], you can bet your bottom dollar I'd empty the ink into something.

I'd generally use a 1/2oz or 1oz Nalgene or glass bottle that's extremely well wrapped, wrapped some more and then placed into a sealed ZipLoc bag "just in case"!

Then I'd further wrap the bag in some bubblewrap or something to make the trip without any incidents happening on-route to you.

OK, OcalaFlGuy, so did the pen filled with ink arrive OK, or did it leak and get ink all over the inside of the packaging?

Just curious.

Either way, leaks or not, I agree that it's rather shocking to hear that a so-called "reputable" vendor would do this for whatever reason.

Unbelievable, sorta, stuff happens from the best of them even if I'd never do anything like this myself and don't understand why anyone would.

I do hope everything turned out OK and if you had mentioned the pen had leaked I just didn't catch that in this thread, nor anywhere else for that matter.

Best wishes,

Scott ~Inka~

I once received several pens in a small box, rattling cross country until they reached me, all scratched up. Not good. Package returned to sender for refund.

But the next group of pens was carefully packed: each carefully wrapped in soft paper inside PVC pipe cut to size with both ends sealed with packing tape, each of the 10 pipes placed between foam inside a box, sealed inside a larger box. You really can tell who cares.

EDIT: for minor changes only.

Yeah, it was kind of messy but it was all contained in the mini-baggie.

I was more astounded that anything else. Shocked actually. I KNOW these folks know better.

I sent them a FYI-o-gram, not raising hell or anything, just kind of a Hungh? message. I actually posted the whole story here and in the meantime

got a message of apology back that they just messed up and they were sorry. That's when I gave it second thought and came back and pretty much

zeroed things out.

Honestly, since all that, I discovered they did something for me in the deal above and beyond the call of duty. Just the type of thing I've come

to know them for. (Which had alot to do with why I was so shocked this happened.)

I sent them another message and told them thank you. In light of what they did for me, 15 min spent cleaning the pen up wasn't any bigwaa.

Excretia occurs. We all make mistakes.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
