Your Montblanc boutique experiences...

Generally, I think when you enter a boutique of any kind, your experience will be directly related to the salesperson's perception of you. Sometimes salespeople are having good days and sometimes they are having bad days, but in the end I believe it's all about how they perceive you. I am extremely new to the FP world, and I just had my first boutique experience last evening. I was meddling with some minor home improvement type construction yesterday and I decided that I needed new ink immediately(the thought just popped in my head and I had to act quickly). I ran into the King of Prussia store about 25 mins before closing. The salesperson, or associate was extremely helpful. I was mostly covered in saw dust and had a tee shirt with no sleeves. I was a sweaty mess. My experience was awesome. Great salesperson. I briefly showed off my recently inherited Agatha Christie and the salesperson polished it for me. We spoke a while about inks and I purchased a bottle of MB Blue Black. We also spoke about watches and MB's movements, and lastly I took a look at a few pens. I plan on returning to pick out a daily use pen.

All in all, my experience was awesome. Considering the factors; it was 25 mins before closing, I certainly did not look like what I consider a typical customer, and I was firing questions off at rapid speed, it was a very pleasant experience. I will certainly return, and certainly do repeat business.

Current:

MB Agatha Christie Vermeil 1053/4810 M nib

Old Style Namiki VP M nib

On the Way:

Twin Girls...of the human variety. No pens are on the way, and probably won't be for a while.

The Wanted Queue:

ST Dupont Defi Carbon Fibre FP/RB

MB Starwalker Fineliner/RB/FP

MB 149

MB Boheme FP

You are absolutely right - about the perception thinggy. But my experience went the other way, though. I walked into the Kuala Lumpur boutique once in jeans and T-shirt to have my 146 and 149 repaired. When I pulled out the pens, the 'associate' looked as if I had stolen them - the message was that obvious. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe maybe she was just having a bad day. So, I tried to talk about fountain pens just to show her I was a serious customer. No go, she was clueless. I've given up on Montblancs since.

Maybe its my fault for not appearing impressive enough. Then again, maybe its not!

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

My favourite pens:

Pelikan M200 Demo / translucent red / medium nibstroke

Lamy 2000 / black / oblique medium nibstroke

Pilot Vanishing Point / yellow / medium nibstroke

They have some nice folks at the King of Prussia store. :happyberet:

I've gone to the South Coast Plaza boutique to get my 149 nib swapped and later to buy a ballpoint refill. Although I just walked in in a t-shirt and jeans, they were very helpful and polite. Maybe they're just used to serving casually-dressed customers here in SoCal...

I recently had an extraordinary good experience at the MB boutique in the PC Hooftstraat in Amsterdam. (Btw the only official MB boutique in the Netherlands...)

I was invited to the presentation of the new Unicef edition and mentioned to the general manager of Benelux that I was still looking for a Unicef Putman as I had been searching for one for three years and thought they were all sold out. The manager promissed he would see what he could do, while before, the boutique had had no success in inquiring to find one. After a few days he gave me the message he had pulled some strings and had found one for me. So I picked it up in Amsterdam for the retail price while I heard they are already been sold on Ebay far over the original price.

Salient detail is, that one time, I let a similar Putman pass, because the shop (not the MB boutique) was asking 11 dollar over the retail price (call me a fool or a principle guy).

I have always been served perfectly by people at MB boutiques (Amsterdam and Zurich) and they always do their best to accommodate my wishes (f.i. when I come back twice to change the nib of the same pen...). My vote:

I love watches and pens - yet I find hardly time to write...

Great story, and congrats on your Putman. In a poll of that Unicef donation series, I believe Putman was the favorite.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
