Your Montblanc boutique experiences...

I am curious...

what did you buy and were you satisfied?

One thing we always had fun with was when people would walk in and ask for the "Skywalker" pen. Even after we referred to it as the "Starwalker" the person would still call it a "Skywalker"

I have bought a 145 and various inks from my local boutique. I am extremely satisfied with all my experiences as I have yet to come across any pretentious behavior coming from the staff. Everyone is very knowledgeable of the current lineup. Oh, and the manager is excellent.

Never been in one. They don't have such things in the 3rd world parts of the U.S.

My experiences with the boutique in Houston have always been good. I have purchased pretty much everything pen-wise including pencil leads, refills, bottles of ink, pen cases and pens to go in the cases. The staff has always been courteous and helpful.

Mine have generally been good, and I have had no snobbish sales-person experiences that others have previously related here. My best experiences were at the Charleston, SC boutique between 2002 and 2005 when I was stationed at The Citadel, and I kept in touch with the manager long after being reassigned. That boutique is where I got my Xing Dynasty LE. I like the dragons.

I suspect this post might get incendiary.

I have had OK experiences even though i have gone in with ink stained shirts and jeans. This the NY Madison ave flagship store so they are used to suits,ties and designer dresses! I brought in two 16 year old pens for repair within a four month period. They were nice once i pulled out my 149 and they saw i owned a Mont Blanc. They let me try a 146 which i then bought from Fountain pen hospital because it was cheaper! I have also bought ink from them. I don't get the warmest welcoming response but I am used to that in the city. I walk into ANY store ANY where--if they want to judge me for my outward appearance then let them--I know who I am. They did GREAT service on the pens one for $50 the other $70{and that one got a brand new barrel and piston!!!}

I have never actually bought anything but I went to the one in Canada and was very satisfied. Even though I am only 14 and walked in with baggy shorts and a t-shirt, I was treated courteously and respectfully, and struck up a pleasant conversation with the manager about the UNICEF ultra-limited edition. I expressly told them I wasn't in to buy anything but I was treated nicely anyway. I wasn't even carrying my Montblancs, neither did I mention I owned two.

Loving Mont Blanc and everything fountain pen!!!!!!!!

One of the few, the proud... 14 year-old FPN'ers!!!!!! ;)

MY INKS: Parker Quink Blue, Private Reserve Midnight Blues, Montblanc Black

Yes, most stores are staffed with competent, courteous staff but there are few that always have something stuck up there. Some used to stare down people who didn't dress rich but it turns out they are the most loyal clients.

I'm glad to see positive responses so far.

I made my first visit to the MB boutique at Inorbit mall, Vashi, Mumbai-INDIA. Very pleasant experience, went there to just buy some cartridges for my new Mozart, the place is manned by a single employee who is the salesman cum manager, got to see and handle a few LEs that they had on display. If I had the money, I would buy from the boutique only.

In case you wish to write to me, pls use ONLY email by clicking here. I do not check PMs. Thank you.

I've never purchased a pen at a boutique, but limited myself to ink and Meisterbutten paper. My recent trip is at

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...t=#entry1159199

The staff has ranged from the snooty, to pen ignorant, to the manager of the Charleston SC boutique who pulled out all the LEs, including the then new Fitzgerald and insisted I handle it. Contrary to reports, this is while I was in a faded T shirt and ragged blue jeans. Must have looked so bad he thought I was an undercover tycoon.

Ok, small and not too impressive.

I wouldnt dream of buying a pen there-too expensive for my blood.

Hi,

in Vienna, Kärntnerstrasse, they were gazing at my clothing like crazy, when I entered the shop.

I didn't look like a tramp, but like an exhausted tourist after a long shopping afternoon two weeks before christmas...

When we left the shop, the young man, who opened the door for other leaving customers, moved no single muscle and we had to

open the door by ourselves - a strange experience and no "come back invitation"... (MB bashers, please don't read :headsmack: ).

Best,

Anna

Hi,

in Vienna, Kärntnerstrasse,

Ah, the same place I was going to buy the Meissen Porcelain Dragon 888 LE, but decided not to at the last minute because of an off-hand remark in Deutsch Sprache by the salesman about tourists . I speak German, but sometimes only speak English on purpose.

Bought that particular pen at the Strasbourg, France boutique. I forget the young woman's name, but she was delightful, as were the rest of the staff members, and I have gone back there often. I don't speak French.

...very interesting, isn't it. Nice to meet you again in the early morning - even with sharing bad memories... :headsmack:

Of course, Anna, quite interesting experiences, but I'm sure someone here had a great experience in Wien. Mine was a Sacher Torte for breakfast!

I always had wonderful experiences: friendly and polite service even when I was not buying and only "looking".

Hallo Anna: I wonder, if that is more typical of European classist behaviour. MB employees wanting to serve the aristocracy and the elite. You didn't meet their expectations. They wanted to serve a queen and they merely got an exhausted tourist. Too bad they didn't see the human being.

Anna, I'm so sorry about your experience. Where I was, my co-workers were really snobby, too. They would also make remarks as soon as people left. :-/ They always judged people on what they wore.

That was a good move, I would have done the same - and I would have gone back to show them the LE and tell them how much I love it in Deutsch Sprache. Do you mind me asking what the salesman said?

I had a great experience at the Bond Street boutique in London a few years ago. I only went in to have a look and ended up playing with a little Boheme fountain pen. I did buy one a few months later.

I am planning to go there this Saturday to buy some ink.
