Pre 1950 Mark 1 or Post 1950 slender?

I'm puzzled. The pen in this set has the aero-metric vent hole in the end of the barrel, but it has the hoop-style filler design. There's no date code. The barrel is a very dark blue, but I don't know if it's the cedar blue (that's my guess actually) of the '41 to '48 "51"s or the midnight blue of the 1950 and beyond. Please help me identify and date this set. I can't sleep nights. And my work is beginning to slip. Thanks.

if this is a Aero P51 pen set. IMHO that could be a loyal blue (Hard to come by too)

Cedar blue are more for the name to a p51 Vac while Aero named as teal blue, mid night blue (almost the same to teal blue), last the loyal blue (hard to come by). Looking at the set, and the pencil tell me that is more to the loyal blue Aero set after 1950.

The box are more for the Vac. if the Pen is a Vac, Cedar blue will be right but then again the pencils belong to a Aero insteads.

You should get yourself a good sleep by now......

Hope I am giving the right information.

According to the Parker 51 book there is no color known as Loyal Blue...

I have never even heard of a reference to that color until today...

The Parker Aerometric pens came in teal, midnight and dark blue.

With the dark blue being found on later 51s..

Cedar Blue was only found on the 51 Vac pens and not on Aeros...

Seeing as the pen has no date code it may very likely have been made after 1952 when Parker stopped adding the date code to the 51

Griz, Which Parker 51 book are you referring to? I'd like to get a copy. Thanks.

There is only one book on the Parker 51... Pendemonium is selling it

It was written by David and Mark Shepherd in collaboration with Parker

If you are into 51s... it is a must have reference book... not at all cheap, but well worth having

If Richard's Pens is right, the Cedar Blue was only used up till 1948, but the hoop style filler introduced in the 21 was first used in 51 Slenders in 1949. At some point in the later 1950s the vent hole was moved from the end of the barrel, to the side.

The pen in this set is probably the Midnight Blue that was used from 1948 to 1972. It has the hoop-style filler and the vent hole is in the end of the barrel. So I think this pen must be a 51 Slender dating between 1949 and 1956. I say '56 because I remember some reference on this site to a characteristic of the clip on this pen that places it before 1957. I have to confess that I don't remember what the specific detail was, but I do remember checking this pen and feeling sure that it met that criteria.

If anyone can fill me in on this clip detail, that'd be really appreciated.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
