Thanks, Henry, for the review. I did a review on the last Sheaffer cartridge pen, which I still consider a fine instrument for its intended use-student and/or utilitarian writing. I've had a long-running love affair with the Waterman Kultur, the student version of the Phileas. It's yet another reason I neglect my much-more-expensive pens on a daily basis!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I just wanted to mention that these comparisons are very valuable to one such as myself: A student, totally green on the subject of fountain pens, and wondering where to jump in.

 

Great work!:clap1:

At a rough guess, I calculated we had completed half of our galactic revolution: I had only to be patient, the second half always seemed to go by more quickly.

Great review!

Have you ever tried the TWSBI pens? I think it is a nice pen as a school pen, since they can hold plenty of ink, which is never bad for a student! also it is much more affordable than the 2000.

You found a Lamy 2000 for under $50???!!! I love my Safari and would like to try a higher-end Lamy, but so far it has been out of my reach.

 

Maybe I'm cheap, but I'd let a kid knock around with a Preppy or Varsity for a while and get some confidence that they won't lose it in two days. Or, if I'm feeling extravagant I'd try a Pelikano Junior (which actually has some kid appeal, now that I think of it). I have a Junior that I use sometimes myself, though I may have, errrr... buffed the "Junior" off of the cap.

Where can I find a Kaweco for $11 and a Lamy 2000 for less than $50 ?? Really... :blink:

 

Great review and all.. but I completely disagree with calling the Lamy 2000 a "student" pen. Is like throwing Michael Crichton in a beginners 101 writing class and then grade everyone the same. :roflmho:

Pelikan m200, Rotring M, Rotring 0.9 ground to perfection, Rotring other broad nibs, Luoshi,unidentified old Sheaffer student pen M, Hero with ducks painted on it F, many calligraphy Sheaffer No Nonsense's, Kaweco Classic Sport M, Nemosine Singularity F, J. Herbin refillable rollerball, Pilot Metropolitan M; love old pens and various inks--in it for the writing and drawing.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
