Pens that are slim, yet on the heavy side

How about Graf von Faber Castel pens? They are thin, and some of the metal ones can get a little hefty.

Faber Castell E-Motion in Pearwood, F nib
Montblanc 149, F nib
Visconti Divina Proporzione 1618, S nib
Montblanc Cool Blue Starwalker, EF nib

How about the Pilot Capless Fermo? It is slim and quite heavy at approx 36gms? I love my pen with a F nib, exceptional performer but not a springy nib.

Best,

Hari

I like my Huashilai 2375 -- it's almost too slender for me (though I'm learning how to hold it without hurting my hand), and quite heavy (cap appears to be stainless under the lacquer/paint/whatever, barrel could well be brass). Very inexpensive, too -- you could get four for the MSRP of a Lamy Al-Star, and that's from a US seller.

Does not always write loving messages.

Does not always foot up columns correctly.

Does not always sign big checks.

Wow, I wasn't expecting quite so many responses! Thanks, everyone. Now I have an even longer list of pens to check out and look into.

Anyone have any thoughts as to which of the aforementioned pens would have the springiest nib?

The Graf, if posted, can be a bit heavy and unbalanced. However, unposted, it's great. Pelikan nib, celluloid barrel, handsome and stately. I like them a lot. Further, my Targa is a fraction on the heavy side.

Thanks

How about a MB 144 honed from the depleted uranium core of a nuclear submarine?

In all seriousisness, perhaps one of the thinner yard 'o leds might fit the bill.

I'll take an Aurora, please. Aurora black.

Faber-Castell "Ambition" is fairly thin but with a completely solid feel to it. If you post it, it can even feel too heavy at first, though I have found with repeated use that posting gives me better control over this pen and that I get used to the weight. Unposted, it can feel a bit short, and because there is no tapering at the section, it is actually more tiring in the hand than when posted. I do love the wood around the barrel, which darkens with age and usage.

The steel nib is not springy, but with a little gentle "flossing" with a razor, it can have a pretty smooth flow.

Faber-Castell pencils, woodcased and mechancal, are well-nigh perfect instruments, but none of their fountain pens, beautiful as they are, are entirely satisfying. They each have little design quirks. They certainly do not compare, in my experience, to Aurora's top line for sheer writing pleasure and flawless function. Nevertheless, for a relatively inexpensive thin pen with a solid feel, you can't go wrong with the Ambition.

I vote Sheaffer Targa!

I'm with Perry on the Targa recommendation!

On the lower cost side of things I'd recommend a Sheaffer Agio.

Also, add another vote for a Targa. The Targa I had had a fair stiff nib on it. I'm not sure if there were "springy" nib options.

Slim Sheaffer Targas are well balanced and somewhat on the heavy side because of being made of metal. This is an exceptional pen.

Getting cartridges is difficult but the pen should come with a converter.

Me too...

Targa.

I just love my Black Matte.

Elysee. Still available on eBay and I saw one at a flea market last week. Very thin and hefty.

It's impossible to ignore all these recommendations for the slim Targa! It is now is at the top of my to-buy list right now (aside from a very minor detour towards the Pilot Murex). I've noticed a couple on ebay that nobody bids on and subsequently keep getting relisted. Figure since nobody is bidding they must be a little overpriced. I'll probably wait till the next LA pen show and hope to pick one up there or bite the bullet and buy one via ebay.

I really appreciate all these recommendations. Will be looking into the Yard o'led pens later tonight :) Thanks and keep the recs coming if you think of more!

Oh, I finally got my hands on a Sailor Chalana, which was not very heavy at all. Someone on another post likened the pen to a drinking straw; it's more like a short coffee stirrer! Great little pen, though. I'm happy to own one.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
