Thank you notes

Hi, I need to write a thank you note. I have read that correspondence cards can be used for this, but I recently discovered that I am out of matching envelopes for those. :( Is it ever OK to use letter sheets for a thank you note? Also, just curious what thank you notes do you use?

In this day and age of no thank you notes at all, I'm sure any form of note would be appreciated. I've used letter sheets for thank you notes. Are you in a very formal business setting?

It is somewhat formal. Thank you! I just realized that this and my last post are in the wrong place. Does anyone know how I can move it?

You need to ask admin. to move a post. There is a "Report" button on the lower left side -- that is one way to contact admin.

It sounds like you'll be doing some stationery shopping for thank you notes. What fun! I bought some nice embossed correspondence cards from AlwaysStationery -- http://www.alwaysstationery.com/?gclid=CIL...CFSgYagodyRJ3Bg

I have used everything for Thank You notes, except I no longer use cards that say "Thank You".

I match the paper to the length of the message: correspondence cards for the relatively short (and there are big and little cards), monarch sheets, 8.5 by 11 sheets, and folded lettersheets. I rarely use fold over notes as a matter of preference.

As far as formal, I prefer handwritten, and try to match the paper to the level of formality. No imprinted red sports cars or flowers, but a monogram, or a plain high quality (Amalfi, Obr, Cranes) is just fine.

As jbb noted, almost any gracefully worded acknowledgment will be greatly appreciated.

Why not use a fancy blank greeting card, like the ones often sold at art fairs, in bookstores and in boutique-y gift card and stationery stores? Sometimes these cards can also be found in cafes. They have a fancy print or photograph on the front, look all artsy and cool, and make great thank you cards.

Agreed. I keep several boxes of blank notecards and I do use them for thank-you notes. In fact, I did so this morning, using this notecard to thank a friend who picked up a bottle of Private Reserve Orange Crush ink for me at Flax in SF.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

According to Crane's Blue Book of Stationery:

1. Timeliness is essential.

2. Women may use either foldover note, men use correspondence cards. As a general rule.

3. Format: Greeting, appreciation, usefulness, close.

Start your pen,

Yours,
Randal

I don't think it matters what paper or card you use. The sentiment, send in a timely manner, is what is important. I keep a stack of 3x5 cards I purchased from Levenger (with envelopes) that I use for this purpose when I only want to say thanks and not write a longer message. The card I have are printed with my name and are unlined. When I also want to write a longer note in additoon to saying thanks, I use a variety of letter sheets. My wife often uses postcards to day thanks. /Craig

Thank you all. I was afraid my G. Lalo verge small letter sheet would be inappropriate, but it seems it will do just fine.

I think G. Lalo verge de france paper would be perfect for a thank you note. Earlier this week, I received a pack of G Lalo bordered cards, that have the same texture as the verge paper, and have sent three of them off to my girlfriend. They are great to write on very smooth, and have a understated elegance about them. A more detailed review will be up in a week or so.

But I agree, it's not so much what you write a thank you note on, as much as the timeliness of the note to those who are being thanked.

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

Yes, I am hoping to get some G. Lalo cards in the paper exchange. I love their paper. I like the tablets because the covers can act as ink color suggestions. I use to love Crane's laid paper in Ecru. Unfortunately, they do not make it anymore. They seem to be leaning towards the high fashion correspondence card. *sigh* You will all be happy to know that the thank you note was sent, and should arrive on time. :D

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste. Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet. Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away.... I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link.... Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
