My new Citrine Solitaire MB Classique says "France"?

But the box indicates "Made in Germany" What gives?

Also, this was new "old stock" from a reputable pen shop, bought on sale, but the MB logo in the cap I discovered has a 3-prong hairline crack I can only see under 10x magnifier. Worth shipping to Bethlehem, PA? Or can they not fix that? Will the logo fall out some day?

Thanks for any advice!

Bethlehem is closed. If you are not near a boutique, call the customer service number on the website to make arrangements to mail it to their Texas facility for a quotation. If you just bought it new from inventory, it should be repaired for free under warranty no matter how long the pen sat on the shelf at the authorized retailer.

Thanks for the heads up and good advice. I would not have called, just mailed it with a note to the address I already had! :headsmack:

@robmcdade Specific Solitaire models — the pre-1988 solid gold pens (Montblanc’s atelier created them “in-house” from 1988 onwards); the Nikolai I Vermeil and Nikolai I Platinum-plated (whose caps were handpainted in stripes of different colours of genuine malachite that had been ground to a powder and then mixed with resin binders); the Ramses II (Vermeil only, whose cap was formed with a similar technique to the Nikolai I pens except for the use of lapis lazuli); the Coral Mozart (whose cap was fashioned with a proprietary lacquer impregnated with coral); the Hematite Steel (whose cap was formulated similarly to the Coral Mozart except for the use of hematite); your Citrine (whose cap was fabricated similarly to the Coral Mozart except for the use of citrine); and others — were manufactured in France rather than in Germany.  Thus, the “France” rather than “Germany” inscription appears on the clip ring for some, if not all, of these pens.

As you may have noticed from the above list, the models produced in France tended to have a jewellery-like component to their construction, and were generally considered to be noteworthy Solitaires.  In particular, the Nikolai I Vermeil (2214x), Nikolai I Platinum-Plated (2234x), Ramses II (2014x), Coral Mozart (2321x), Hematite Steel (232xx), and Citrine (0755x) were once collectively known as articles belonging to The Precious Stone Collection, and are still regarded as special amongst the Solitaire models.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
