Cross Solo?

El Mocho

Recommended Posts

I got this pen at an office store in Texas in about 2001. It was the second fountain pen I ever owned, but I could never get the flow right. It took me ages of fiddling to realize I had let the nib be clogged, so I flushed it over and over again to draw ink back up through the nib.

It came with the green Cross converter, which was cracked-- that's why I couldn't draw the ink. So currently I run it from refilled Cross cartridges. It has turned into a decent writer, with all the qualities FPN members have written about the Cross Solo.

However, the trim doesn't look like any of the Solos I have seen pictured. I seem to recall paying $30-40 for it, but that was ages ago when I was but a fountain pen newbie.

Is this indeed a Solo, or some other named variant? It is sort of a marbled green, but looks black in the photos.

Thanks.

Have a few Solo's..black, solid green, solid blue, which both have solid black end caps.

Size is very close to the Waterman Phileas. Length is Longer than the Phileas, the body circumferance is is just a tad thinner, the cap likewise, and tapers quite thin. Twist, not snap cap.

Original boxes say:

806A-2M

Navy Blu Solo Fountain Pen

on the bottom:

Navy B1 CL Fntn Pen Med

Made in USA $40.00

the Green box says: 3M

Will have to add these to my rotation..completely forgotton how very nice these pens are.. bought several, gave as gifts..every bit as nice as the better known/recommended Phileas.

edited to add-oops just noticed that the ring on the bottom of your cap appears to be doubled..mine is a solid band, which says Cross_Cross_Cross_ 3 times around the band...perhaps this band, and mottled colored plastic was an earlier generation Solo? or regionally marketed style?

I believe this model might be the Radiance. Your pen looks pretty much like a Solo, except for the cap bands. Hope this helps. :)

Always nice to get that first cross. Congrats Its a bit dinged, but looks solid, plenty of paint, and not much rust. Nice example. Perhaps one of our more learned members could deduce the maker for you.

Here is a website that I designed for online payday loan company.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
