Bazic Mileno

Hi all,

Visited our local college bookstore yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised to see a new fountain pen hanging on the wall right next to Varsity - Bazic Mileno. The price was even more surprising: $2.95 - for comparison, Varsities go for $3.00 at the same place. There were even two colors to chose from, black and very dark blue. The pen is not disposable, seems to accept international cartridges, as it is packaged with three short ones (one in the barrel). The nib appears to be of stainless steel with embellishments and "Lantu" (?) imprint. Here are some pictures (please never mind the quality):

I never heard of this name before, I tried searching the forum, but found nothing. Now i am even more curious, does anyone here have any information on these pens?

I know nothing about them, but that's a pretty little pen for $3. Given it takes an international cartridge and the barrel isn't obviously stubby, it'll probably accept the standard piston converters, too. Of course, the converter will cost you as much as the pen, plus shipping, but you'll save that back on ink in about a year. I'll have to look at the local Staples to see if they have that one (the Office Depot doesn't even have Varsity).

looks very nice to me!

anyway,

i like / prefer cheaper fountain pen (US$30 and below), cause i would feel less heartache when i drop them, which i have not on my sailor fountain pen ...

Cool little pen and one I'd be happy to grab. Google shows me they can be had by the case here or singly here. Sadly, I'm seeing things which indicate that they might be a close-out item.

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

I have quite a few of the Bazic Eclipse fountain pens. I found them at a local dollar store, and I love them for daily writers at work...and I'm not quite devastated if they grow legs and walk away. :-)

I find them pretty workable, and I've ground a few of the nibs to italics to hone my grinding skills.

Cheap practice.

Cheers.

Are these refillable in any way? Use cartridges?

Thanks

No, they're not refillable...at least they're sealed. I'm sure some enterprising FPNer could devise a way to refill them though...just look at the Pilot Varsity threads.

None of the web sites I've seen shows a nib size for either the Eclipse or Mileno, but you can probably assume a Western Fine unless you see otherwise.

Thanks for the input guys. Here is my experience with the Bazic Mileno so far. As expected, it seems to accept "standard" international converters alright: at least, I was able to fit a noname one in - with quite some friction on the outside (might be a good thing, after all). The barrel is definitely wide and long enough to have good clearance both around and past the converter. Close inspection of the nib revealed slightly misaligned tines, fixing which was very easy. The writing qualities of the nib are fair - the line is plenty wet (maybe slightly above average wet) and while I can't define the width precisely, it is surely wider than F. The nib itself is rather stiff (reminds me Lamy and Rotring) and is somewhat scratchy, but definitely not to the point of making the pen unusable. Actually, it is already better than few x10 more expensive pens I happened to have. I definitely plan to give at a good spin and test it at work as my main pen, even without trying to smoothen the nib, which I plan to do eventually.

These look like the pens to give people who have never used a FP. They use cartridges so those not willing to put much work into the pen can still use them... Hmm... The gears in my head are turning :)

Oh my goodness, just created an account to ask if anyone has seen any of these recently. I got one as my first fountIn pen but alass it broke just a week or so ago. Went to the dollar store and all they had was the ink but not the pen. anyone know any websites or private eBay sellers that can sell these separately and not on huge bulks?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
