Pelikan Epoch Medium nib

TwilightFury

Recommended Posts

I have a Pelikan Epoch medium nib waiting for me at home that was delivered earlier. I can't wait to get to play with it! Anybody else who owns this pen recommend any particularly sweet ink pairings? Thank you!! :bunny01: :bunny01: :bunny01: :bunny01:

Edit: OMG I love this pen....it is so smooth and friendly to write with!!!! The nib just glides effortlessly over the page, even on cheap paper.

Something with some bling-bling to it. That's a great (and frankly, super-underrated) pen, and I had one with a medium nib, too (shortly thereafter, though, Abi swapped the nib to an XF). Great writer!

What is the color and/or pattern on the pen?

Epochs refill from the back (upstream) end of the barrel, so the long international cartridge is the only cartridge format for them. A short international cartridge would be very difficult to remove when empty.

Epochs can take a converter but do not have space at the open end for you to grip the converter's knob. Therefore, a converter must be removed, filled directly from the bottle, and put back in (hold the Epoch nib-downward when removing the converter and nib-upward when reinserting the converter).

I got my Epoch from Pendemonium with an italic nib, love it! Never used any thing but generic blue international carts in it. I have heard that some folks have found a converter to fit this pen but I haven't ever seen one.

Its Jade Green.

What kind of a converter could work? A Pelikan one or something else?

I had wondered if I was going to have to refill this long cartridge in order to enjoy other inks....

I have a feeling I'm going to have to refill these cartridges with a syringe. Bummer that my PR Mixing kit didn't include ones with needles.

My ink suggestions for a jade green pen: black (subtle or eye-popping), greenish blue-black (subtle), neutral or greenish brown (medium visual effect), gray (subtle), or green (subtle or eye-popping).

Pelikan's converter will probably fit. So will a generic "international" converter.

Disposable plastic pipettes are another way to refill a cartridge, and they can be reused many times before disposal.

Not sure what kind of syringes you get in the kit, but try asking for just the needle part at your local pharmacy (bring the syringe with you). It shouldn't cost you very much just for the needle attachment....

I love using my Epoch, too! I got it for a very, very low price from a fellow FPNer (thanks, Natalie!) because the plating on the nib had started to flake off. I removed all of the plating (the nib now has an odd but charming wavy pattern on it due to this defect) and reground the nib to a cursive italic and it works great. I was using the Pelikan long cartridges that came with it, but the pen also likes Lamy Blue (edit: obviously Lamy Cartridges won't work in the Epoch; I refilled an empty Pelikan long cart with my bottled Lamy Blue ink) very much :) Congrats on your Epoch!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
