I figured that if I was going to learn about nib repair I'd start with a cheap parts pen

Just bought THIS. The nib is bent rather than broken so I figured that even with the cost of nib repair factored in this was still reasonable.

Hi congrats for a good find, albeit the nib is bent. I think with that kind of cost, it's well justified (provided all other parts are working, in particular do examine the piston system carefully)

I had a similar find a year ago with a bent nib. I tried repairing it but finally sent it to max at Germany. A fine final results! :happyberet:

I wouldn't use this as an experiment, seeing the overall value of the pen and nib. My suggestion is to get it properly repaired by someone who is up to the job. Then purchase an inexpensive pen and experiment with nib repair. In fact, you can get a used Lamy Safari for under $15 and then buy replacement nibs at $5 a shot.

Occasionally you can find 146 nibs for sale on ebay or here in the classifieds.  Might just be easier to swap it out.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

Ah, I read your post a bit too quick and missed the "soapy twist" in your intent. ;)
