Submarine is a pen company based in Mumbai, India who are into making mainly promotional pens. They have been making pens since 1995 which makes them 30 years old in this business. You can check their website here. https://www.submarinepens.com Recently they have launched this giant of a pen. It’s so recent that it has not yet made it to their website. The pen is offered in three colors: olive ripple, brown ripple and solid black. The hardware has a gunmetal PVD finish and even the nibs are coated in the same shade. The pen comes with two nib units. One M and the other B. The nib unit threads are JoWo no 6 compatible. The nibs are not laser engraved but are rather custom stamped which shows that the company is seriously invested in offering more such pens in the future. The nib units appear to have been manufactured by the Indian nib OEM Kanpur Writers. The black ebonite is flawless and worth mentioning as it’s quite uncommon to find such Indian ebonite rods in this girth without inclusions/blowholes. The pen comes in a simple triangular box with a box of cartridges included and a Schmidt converter is pre installed. The box. Opened. The pen. Uncapped. The clip. The nibs. Barrel opened. The dimensions of this giant are as under: Capped: 165mm Uncapped length (without nib length): 125mm Cap Diameter max: 20mm Barrel Diameter max: 17mm Section Diameter: 13.5 to 16mm With some other Indian Giants L-R: Deccan Masterpiece, Submarine Orion, Guider Zimbo Pushcap. This is a well engineered and a well built pen. The cap features an airtight in-situ machined inner cap. The cap barrel threads are two-start. The pen caps/uncaps in 2-1/4 turns. The section shape is very convenient. On close inspection of the pen I am fairly certain this pen has been manufactured by Abhay pen agencies of Aurangabad for Submarine. This is an educated guess at this stage considering I have no official confirmation of this. I also feel that the ebonite is not of Indian origin. All in all, I am very happy with this purchase and I will be keeping my eyes open for further pen offerings from Submarine. Cheers Hari

Balance of Delike Submarine pen with wood barrel and full converter

If I recall correctly, the vendor called this pen model (with four variants in the type of wood used) a very informative “Delike Handmade Nature Wood Barrel", but it looks just like a Delike Submarine with a wooden barrel and brass finial to me.© A Smug Dill

I must admit I'm uncertain whether the Delike Submarine pen pictured has an acrylic barrel or a celluloid barrel. The item listing said celluloid, but I cannot detect any camphor smell.© A Smug Dill

Hi, I'm Jens. I live near Kassel, Germany. Since I write a lot I recently decided to ditch the cheap pens I'm using and make one for myself. I have made a few but always ended up giving them away as presents. I wanted to make them out of a special wood, something that has a deeper meaning and not something I had lying around. I thought it would be cool to make one out of wood that came out of a U-Boat. Like a table top or radio enclosure, maybe. What I ended up stumbling upon is way cooler and has much deeper meaning than just a table top. It is the personal chest (footlocker in english?) that belonged to the Commander Heinrich Hasenschar of U 628, which was shot down in the Bay of Biscay on July 3rd, 1943. None of the 49 on board survived after a British B-24 Liberator dropped bombs after noticing the surfaced sub. I took a picture of the box yesterday and wanted to share it here. His name is still visible on top, as well as the last part of his name on the front tag. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k164/Flamewerks/Bomber_Ink_Uboat_Pen-1.jpg The box I bought from Hasenschar's cousin, who still lives in the next village from where Hasenschar came from. The region is called 'Waldecker Land' if you want to see more of it. He was born in the same village where I went to 1st grade. Since the footlocker has his name on it I have found it to be much more than just a box and it has gotten me to research quite a bit. I have always been vaguely interested in WW2 but now, after reading many personal stories, memoirs and letters, not just generalized accounts, it's much more emotional to think what went through everyones head as they went out to fight and I am starting to see things with different eyes. I'll be posting some more pics as I make the Pen. Thanks for looking! Jens

Hello All! My name is Jens, which is pronounced Yens (like Japanese money with an s at the end!). My forum name is Bomber Ink. The reason for this is that I recently acquired a personal storage box from a WW2 U-Boat commander out of which I am going to make wooden pens and fountain pens. Originally I was going to make them for myself, but since I've started that project I thought it would also be cool to keep making pens out of other WW2 items, so I thought Bomber would be a fitting name and the Ink is a play on words for Inc. I am 29 years old. Home right now is Fritzlar, Germany. Although I have spent quite some time in North America so I can speak English and German fluently. I'm going to start a thread documenting the process and the history behind the box. Below I added a picture I took of it the other day. I think that's it for me!
