Diamine Salamander Review

Hello, fellow addicts!

 

Having spent many weeks languishing in the dungeons of the local hospital this summer, (I hope some of you, at least, missed me!), I finally have enough time and energy to hang around here once more.

 

So, I thought I'd kick start my come-back by offering a review of Salamander; Diamine's latest inky concoction. Here it is:

 

 

 

I have to admit I love Diamine inks, as well as the company's ethos. They sell an amazing array of inks - in two sizes so as to be affordable to all - as well as offering special 'Collections' for the more discerning (and affluent) connoisseur. They ship worldwide, Their customer service is second to none! What's not to love?

 

I haven't bought any other brand of ink for well over a year, now. (No affiliaton, BTW, just one very happy customer here)

Tawanda, of course you've been missed. It's good to see you posting again.

 

I agree with you about the Diamine inks. Diamine is the major part of my ink collection.

Your reviews of Diamine Misty Blue and Ochre convinced me to buy a bottle sight unseen but

I think for the Salamander I'll try a sample before committing to an entire bottled. I'm sure it has

all the great properties of the other Diamine inks but I'm just not sure about the color.

Thank you for the review. This ink will be added to my Wishlist for my next order of fountain pen goodies. It's such a great camo-green that looks solid. I like that there isn't much shading.

From my wet-flowing Onoto, Salamander looked significantly darker than this (much closer to The Good Captain's scans). I will be reviewing my bottle shortly to give a comparison.

Ditto. Not sure I like the color after one session with one pen, but I certainly don't dislike it. I love the association by name and appearance, though. I'm enjoying that.

I also agree. I am using Salamander in my Edison Herald with a medium steel nib, currently my journal pen/ink combination. So far it looks good!!!

Agreed! Something messed up with tgis ink no two scans have been anything similar. I only like tge giukets scan.

Someone told me that all the buildings in Santa Fe are that color.

I don't like the color in the scan, either. To me the ink looks more like Diamine Evergreen looks in that scan. It's a dark, olive-leaning green with a hint of brown.

 

I've decided I like it.

You nailed it! That is what it is. And no: it doesn't scan at all....

It is really hard to scan - the green just doesn't want to show, even with a calibrated scanner. It looks its best in natural daylight so I may take some photos to add to my review and see if they appear differently.

 

In response to Sblakers Q about water resistance - it is a Diamine ink so has almost no water resistance. It is exceptionally easy to clean as a result.

You are all correct - it is really, really, hard to scan the colour accurately. I tried several times and it always looked rather washed out, compared to real life. it isn't baby poop brown at all, its a kind of camo greeny-brown, quite rich and intense.

 

I apologise for my rubbish scanner/scanning skills. A new printer/scanner is next on my 'tech replacement' list...

Well what I'm thinking is, and haven't seen mentioned, it is very similar to the Stipula Calamo moss green... which I have. I was hoping it would be some magical combination of Cacao de Bresil, Diamine Golden Brown and Vert Empire all three favourites of mine. Is Salamander differentiated enough? Or is it Diamine's response to (or perhaps they manufacture) the Calamo moss green?
