Sailor Kobe No.36 Indigo Blue

Once again, I had high hopes for this ink, and once again, I'm a little disappointed, though this is has a lot more to do with my expectations than with any problem with the ink itself. Based on the name and the (admittedly) small swab, I was expecting something a little bluer. Instead, this ink has a greenish cast to it that reminds me of inks like Tsuki-yo and Diamine Prussian Blue. It behaves flawlessly, but the color is not quite what I had in mind. This one will probably go up for trade.

Thanks for your well written review. You've saved me at least one bottle of ink. :P

I'm also looking at some Sailor Kobe inks, but I don't really like inks with a green or purple tint to it.

Shall focus on the other Kobe inks then.

Indigo is the color screwed up by ink manufacturers more than any other.

Is there an indigo blue you cellulophile or Kronos 77 can recommend? I too was very unhappy with Diamine indigo and have not looked elsewhere.

Diamine Denim is close.

Thank you for the review. The Kobe ink I purchased is a very pretty color, but it was not what I had expected. No doubt the mistake was mine, because, the sample I saw was created with an extra fine nib and the ink is radically different when in a broad (or triple broad) nib.

I will keep looking and appreciate your time in creating the review.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

My pleasure! With so few reviews and samples available, and with the tiny swatches on the Nagasawa website, these inks are a bit of a gamble. I'm expecting a bottle of the 23, Nagata Blue, any day now and will post a review once I have it.

Sorry for the dead links. Here's an updated scan. I like this ink a lot more the second time around, but I would still recommend saving some money and getting Diamine Misty Blue instead.

Thanks for the updated link. Not a huge fan of this ink, but it's nice to see more Kobe reviews.

The praise of the praiseworthy is above all rewards.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
