Montblanc - Marc Newson

A1979

Thanks. I just found it hard to believe that a design would pop out so quickly... designs take time.

You're right. My guess is that MB & Newson have been working together for a while, but it was kept purposely under-the-radar so that the PR splash from the announcement could be followed up by a prototype and/or actual product for sale.

Interesting, thank you.

The section remembers me the Starwalker.

Thanks for posting that; here's a slightly higher res version of the image. Perhaps it has Ruthenium trim? I really like the design except for the "MN" on the nib.

The comments calling it a mashup of a MB and a Lamy Safari weren't too far off the mark.

So, yet another MB pen I can happily pass on....

That Hermes pen was at least somewhat attractive (if not terrible ergonomic looking).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Indeed much ado about nothing.

Is that a flat area, at the end of the barrel?

Or is it a piece stuck on?

Doesn't look as bad as I thought it would - apart from the flat bit.

Thanks for the picture.

It kinda looks like a pen for people who thought the Starwalker looked too expensive, but didn't cost enough.

I am interested in more information about the mechanical side of it. The pen he designed for Hermes supposedly has "about 300 moving parts" (according the the Forbes article posted earlier in this thread). If this is somehow revolutionary on the inside, then it will get a lot more interesting.

Why not relaunch the 13x series and call it Nostalgia. At least it would save a lot of money on design. Not to mention the fact that these are beautiful pens and functional.

that nib looks a lot like the 14k one in the lamy's like the dialog3

And the clip also reminds the one in the Safari.

Not sure about this one. I was really hoping for something different, whereas this appears to be a rehash of a Starwalker. Lets hope it looks better in real life.

I like it. I like the cap especially. Looks like when capped, the cap and barrel are flush, which is a look and feel that I prefer. Still, I'd like to see it with my hands.

I'm guessing that the flat tail end of the barrel stops it from rolling. I find the design very unattractive from the picture.

Great! They managed to combine the two worst characteristics a fountain pen can have with that metal step-down section. I'm wondering if this pen was meant to be more of a "statement piece" than a writing instrument. The only hope now is that it's not a CC filler.

  • 2 weeks later...

WHEN IT WILL BE IN THE MARKET?

Write, write, write. Use your pens not your fingers !!!

I quite like the design.

So do I. At first I was "ho hum" but the more I look at it the more I like it.

I happened to run across a mention of the pen in the latest issue of the magazine Architectural Digest and they say the price for the FP will be $600.

Interesting, thank you!

A good news indeed. I was expecting a much higher price.

Thanks for the info (I only used B&W film and learned to process that).   Boy -- the stuff I learn here!  Just continually astounded at the depth and breadth of knowledge in this community! Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

It just wasn't likely to have been Kodachrome.  It would have been the films I referred to as "other color films." (Kodachrome is not a generic term for color film. It is a specific film that produces transparencies, or slides, by a process not used for any other film. There are other color trans

@Ceilidh -- Well, I knew people who were photography majors in college, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of them were doing photos in color, not just B&W like I learned to process.  Whether they were doing the processing of the film themselves in one of the darkrooms, or sending their stuff out to be processed commercially?  That I don't actually know, but had always assumed that they were processing their own film. Kodachrome 25 was the most accurate film for clinical photography and was used by dermatologists everywhere. I got magnificent results with a Nikon F2 and a MicroNikkor 60 mm lens, using a manually calibrated small flash on a bracket. I wish there were a filter called "Kodachrome 25 color balance" on my iPhone camera.
