Generation Nib Swap

Anyone know how to replace the nib on a MB Generation? Don't fancy spending £80 with MB to get it done...

Sincerest Regards

The gripping section needs to be seperated in its individual components.

Usually the gripping shell can be unscrewed from the threaded part which screws into the barrel (section ring and ink window will come loose as well).

Once this has worked the nib/feed unit can be pushed into the shell (those nibs cannot be taken out from the front end!) to be removed from the open end (pointing towards the barrel when installed).

From my experience only complete nib/feed units can be replaced but not the nib alone. Removing the nib from the feed will cause damage almost exclusively from my experience.

Cheers

Thank you. Any photo available to help me to understand the terminology such as gripping shell, threaded part, open end, etc. Cheers! Htin

Good evening Michael.

Thank you so much for posting several fantastic photos. It helps me to understand the pen. This is the another type of MB pens I would like to learn how to service or dismantle the pen. This type of pen fascinates me more than 146/149. Once again thank you very much. Best wishes, Htin

I'm resurrecting this old post because my favorite Generation nib is clogged. I've used it for several years without a problem. I've soaked it for days and tried many of the other solutions that usually get a pen working again without success.

I've tried, using my fingers only - no tools, to separate the pen as shown in the second photograph. Is there a trick to this? Which way should I turn to unscrew?

I don't have an untra-sonic cleaner. If this is a highly recommended option to disassembling, I'll have to research which one to buy.

Or, would any of our (very much appreciated) pen restorers be able to fix the problem?

Grasp the transparent threads and turn counter-clockwise. After that you can gently push the nib and feed upward. Just tried this on my generation.

Oops. I hate that word when I'm trying to fix something.

The clear plastic sheared off when I gently started to unscrew it. Oh well. Maybe the nib can be salvaged if/when I commission another pen to be built.

I bought 2 extra Generations nib/sections from a FPN member a few years ago, so I can still use the pen.
