FPN's PEN ART GALLERY

That's lovely Nick, as usualy. I got your mixing set for Christmas and I'm enjoying exploring them. Berber Blue is also a pleasant ink on its own for writing with.

What do you tend to use for black? Was it applied before or after the wash? I'm trying line and wash (with both your inks and watercolours) and I often get black bleeding. Even Platinum carbon black can bleed if it's not totally dry. I'd forgotten that Higgins Eternal isn't waterproof, to my cost. Kuretake sumi ink is waterproof, apparently, but the timeframe for it to actually dry enough to apply a wash over it is, apparently, about 100 years. I prefer fountain pen or dip ink for line quality - I find pigment liners a bit boring, although they are at least more consistently waterproof.

I haven't used any black. This is just using Randall and nothing but Randall. It's a commission for TV producer in the US. The rigging was done using a dip pen with a Zebra G nib. It may appear black but it is in fact Randall.

Glad to hear you have my 4 colours. I'm just about to start making ink art tutorial videos and will be covering just about everything I do. More info on my YouTube channel - have you subscribed?

Woah, @Astron - this is ridiculously awesome! Thank you for sharing :)

You are welcome. After I made some deliberate errors into the model I will share it. The model isn't 100% accurate due to the measurements by hand anyway, but I want to be 100% sure it won't be a blueprint for fakes.

Hi!

Created a big post on the relative (visual) comparison of fountain inks based on my test sketches. On this link if interests: http://lenskiy.org/2019/01/fountain-pen-ink-colorama/

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
