Some more recent plein air sketches.

Swapped out a few inks in the palette again. Doyou isn't doing as well as I had been hoping--for such a dark ink, it doesn't leave much dye when evaporated. Definitely replacing it in the next rotation.

The older neighbourhoods around here are full of cool houses like those :) They have so much character. Here's another from a different area that had a cool upper deck full of flowers I tried to capture. I also got baked by direct sunlight in my car for the entire sketch...

Did some noodling around with my new pen. I wasn't proud enough of it to post it originally, but it kept catching the corner of my eye and making me go "AUGH", may you enjoy the same effect.

Andrea Palladio was an Italian architect active in the Venetian Republic. Palladio, influenced by Roman and Greek architecture, primarily by Vitruvius, is widely considered to be one of the most influential individuals in the history of architecture.

Hello,

Please don't throw stones or rotten tomatoes at me, this is my first ever sketch. I literally newer painted or sketched before, just read couple of tutorials yesterday, not kidding :D

Old tower "Tour de la Sergenterie", at Poligny, France; after a photo I've taken 15 years ago while traveling there.

Edit: forgot to tell this - drawn with Lamy blue-black cartridge ink in Parker 45 CT, Medium nib. My phone doesn't know how to reproduce color correctly, oh well :/

Thanks!

I hope to do more soon, this will solve my "too much ink and too many pens" problem hopefully :D

Your first piece? Wow! Very nice. If you hadn't said you'd never done drawing before I would have assumed you had been doing it for a while.

Yeah, I was myself surprised a bit, seeing the drawing appearing more and more alive was so great!!! Count me addicted!

I've done lots of traditional black and white photography in the past (film, chemicals and darkroom stuff), and being familiar with tonal values may've helped I think.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
