Interesting Note

I visited to the Bond Street visit a couple weeks ago, right after the 90th anniversary pens were released. I believe i was one of the first customers to see them.

According to the lovely assistant, Steph, the rose gold trim models will continue past this year, but with the standard box and nib. I thought I'd post that here as i haven't seen that info anywhere else on here yet.

Almost regretting going for an m805 instead, no one does shiny black pens like MB. I guess it's my birthday in a few months!

I was aware of this fact and had already hinted about the nib on another 90 year anniversary pen thread.

I wasn't sure whether I had been advised about that in confidence or not.

Thanks for the info. I wonder how long they will offer this, and will it be more $ than the standard 149?

The Prices will remain the same for the rose gold options after this year. Or they'll rise in line with any price increases. In the UK the rose gold version is the same price as the Platinum trim, with the yellow gold slightly cheaper. Thats what i was told when i visited the boutique!

A 149 with platinum trim?

Maybe he's comparing it to the other lines, the rose gold is available in all pens after all. in the US the platinum is more expensive than the rose which in turn is more expensive than the yellow gold, 755$, 705$, 690$

Interesting. In the UK a 146 costs as follows:

Yellow gold: £445

Platinum: £470

Rose gold: £470

149 yellow gold: £595

149 rose gold: £620

From my understanding the rose and platinum trims are "premium" trim options, costing more than the classic yellow gold. After the 90th year edition, next year, the rose gold will remain a "premium" trim option, but with a standard nib and packaging.

Sorry if I was unclear!

Not for the 149 though as there is no 149 platinum trim version. The 149 price is currently £620 and that's a bit higher than the usual 149 price, as jethrobrink confirms.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
