I will tryto post more rare pens here!

By the way for someone who wants to see the photos in bigger resolution I think you can do this copying the link and pasting it in you browser, which will lead to the page where you can chose a bigger size to look at.

(Looks like all you need is click on the photos and in the new page click- Original Size and enjoy!)

Have a great upcoming week!

Excellent craftsmanship, that inner piston mechanism diamond spiral must look cool when activating the piston. Could you imagine that beauty filled with Gandhi Saffron ink? :puddle:

Great pictures, Evgeny! Thanks for starting our week off so nicely! :)

One question: how in the world did you manage to snag the first & third of the series?!?!?

(FWIW, I'd be happy with 88/88, but 1 and 3...Wow!!!)

Well I do not own a #1/1 version (the one with the black diamonds) I own the #1/3 and #1/88

The #1/88 I bought from the dealer who won it on the first Bonhams pen auction (held in February 2009) . If you know the final price at Bonhams was $33,550! So if you add dealer commission, insurance and all the postage cost the price will be very nasty!

But I love #1 and last numbers! So I went for it!

As to #1/3 it was even before I got the #1/88. A huge collection was sold out, with lots of #1 in it!

Montblanc already knows I am crazy about #1 and last numbers so they have already seduced me several times with those numbers this year! )))) I will post one of those when I return from Italy (where and on my way back I will collect it from the MB boutique)

Evgeny, I can imagine you have a story behind all of your most prized pens. It would be great, for us mere mortals, to hear how you get your pens, particularly those you have had to track down. Do Montblanc call you directly or send you an e-mail? Do you visit and view the pen in person? If so, where is the furthest you have had to travel to see a pen? Or, do you always commission a dealer to act for you?

I get excited simply spotting a 'must have' pen on e-bay, then going through the process of wishing the days away until the day of sale, before the final countdown for bidding. Then (if I win) the agony of waiting for my 'new' pen to arrive! I can only imagine what you must go through, given the stakes. Can you recall which of your pens caused you the most excitement, tracking down, bidding, and receiving?

Your post has become compulsive viewing for us MB fans. I am certain with the extent of your collection you could almost have your own forum! Please feed us more :clap1:

Thank you, Evgeny, for another topic with such great photographs.

What are the differences between the 1/3 and 1/88 other than the number of diamonds?

Well there is no particular rule for me. Unfortunatelу most of the rare pens I bought in US through a dealer or even directly from another collector. To travel to US it is tooo far, so I usually ask my friend who is also dealing with pens (but just secondary market) to receive the pen for me and check it.

When the pens are in Europe and the pens are very expensive (like Harrison #3/3 ) I fly to collect and check then in person. But in Europe I also have friend and a dealer who helps me to accumulate my pens :) and when I am in EU or some of my relatives he sends the pens for me. Same situation in Asia. But from asia I usually receive pen through post.

The furthest I traveled was US I went there to collect my most expensive pen The John Hanсock (4th of July) #1/1

Yes! I know what you are talking about! And sometimes a pen won on Ebay for $3500 can bring much more joy that another one bought in boutique for 17,000 euros :)

But imaging me having sometimes to wait 4-6 months (after I paid for the pen) to finally hold a pen in my hands

It is difficult to emphasize on a specific story, but I must say the most excitement and thrill probably came from the Black Widow #1/3 ! As it was my very first such expensive pen!

I was going mad waiting for it and than just admiring it :) (And I did not tried to track it I just got a call from European dealer telling me that he knows a guy who decided to sell the pen and we needed to make an offer hoping that the owner would accept it! :))

And I was not very sure how much is a nice price, what was original retail value and what was the market value. This also added a lot of thrill and anxiety

The only difference is just 1,838 white diamonds roflmho.gifon the barrel and cap. And that is it. (well and dozens of hours of the jeweler's work....)

Lovely, just lovely.

Do you use any of them? I imagine it'd be hard to write with the Black Widow, what with all that lovely sparkling going on. I'd be distracted. :-)

Nope, I never inked pens from my Primary collection.

The SUSPENSE!

At your level of collecting, I'm not surprised. I think I would, but that's because it's a theoretical question for me. If I had these pens, maybe I wouldn't ink them, either. Really don't know for certain.

I was going to do that, but than I thought maybe you will not be very interested in other rare pens after that one? Maybe we need to leave it for now and post it after I post a dozen of other limited editions?

But I have a couple of photos I quickly made on the day I took pictures of Black Widow, so I may post some of its photos too ;)

Hey Evgeny

John Hancock's signature on Wiki seems to have nice swells which would have been written with a flexi type nib. Does the Hancock 1/1 have a flexi nib to be able to emulate his hand writing?
