Weight of Parker 51?

Hi,

Hero makes a knock-off of the Parker 51, which I found to be very light. Not having held a real 51, how do they weigh in comparison with other pens? And what is the body made out of? Perhaps there is a discussion about this already, but if anyone has used both, it would be interesting to hear the differences. Thanks,

Aaron

51s are not heavy pens. They feel light in the hand. The barrel and hood are lucite plastic. I don't have a scale to weigh a pen, but they feel about the same as a light weight Hero.

The Hero 100 feels about the same weight as the Parker "51". But there are other Heros like the P51. The Hero 336 for instance is noticably lighter. Don't know about the Hero 616 or others.

I don't have any Heros but I just weighed 6 P 51's. Two squeeze fillers weighed 20.5g, and 20.3g. Four vacuum fillers weighed 18.1g, 19.3g and 18.1g. and 19.7

Fyi one Parker super 21 was 18.6g.

My Parker 51, with lustalloy cap, aerometric filler, weighs 17.3 g, empty.

That is light. Under the same conditions a Sailor Sapporo weighs 20.2 g; a Parker Duofold International (new model) weighs 22.3 g.

My apology to ask this but I'm a real noob in 51's and I haven't touched any 51's with plastic barrels yet, I only have one flighter 51, but I assume it's much heavier than the plastics? However I love the sturdy and solid feel and the weight of this flighter. Any idea on 51 flighter's weight so I could compare whether it's worth the effort to collecting other plastic 51s?

Sorry, I don't have one. Maybe someone else can weigh it and pass that on to you.

Awesome stats - not to be too pen-geeky, but having weights does help with estimating style and preference for us poor folk.

Thanks,

Aaron
