Levenger Empyrean

I picked up Levenger Empyrean from the Levenger store and tried it for a week. I really like it! For those PR Midnight Blues fans out there - this is definitely worth a try, especially if you can find a Levenger coupon.

Thanks for the nice review! How does one track down a Levenger coupon?

May you have pens you enjoy, with plenty of paper and ink. :)

Gran - I've been getting a lot of 15% off coupons via e-mail since November, but none of them are valid right now. I believe you will have to give up your e-mail to get these coupons. Levenger used to give 15% off if you call in your order and give your e-mail address for the database.

How does this compare to PR Black Magic Blue, if you're capable of making a comparison?

Black Magic Blue, to me, is a vibrant purple blue. Empyrean is more subdued (less intense) and leans away from purple into teal (although definitely not a teal color). It's a dark navy blue.

Great. That's pretty similar to my take on the Black Magic Blue and helps me decide that I don't want to buy this ink. Thanks!

Try a web search, you will get some hits that at times have valid 15%/20% off coupons off $50 or $75 purchase, some times off any purchase. If you buy online, the order will come with a discount card for a next purchase. If it's a small ink purchase, there's no discount usually unless you snag a % off any purchase. The inks are fully priced to expensive, cartridges $12/box is steep. Bottled ink is $5 shipping, cartridges ship free.

I just tried Levenger Empyrean for the first time. In a Pelikan M805 with a cursive italic nib, it writes very nicely. I have included a brief handwritten review. /Craig

Definite +1 on this ink. I have way too many blue inks, but this has quickly become one of my favorites. As others have said, excellent dry time, yet great flow without feathering, and very good lubricity. Outstanding depth of color--solid dark blue without purple or teal.

Thanks for reviewing and posting the comparison! That's very helpful, since most dark blue fans would go for PR midnight blue first.

Hi:

Has anyone noticed a similarity between Empyrean an PR DC Super Show Blue?

DC SS Blue is brighter. Empyrean is closer to the "midnight blue" variants.

I would not have bought this ink except for stumbling across it in a Levenger store in January. I was testing out some of their inks and my wife heard me mutter "Whoa" from across the store. This ink is now in my main M800 "business" pen which has used Aircorp Blue-Black exclusively for the last two years.

Empyrean seems as well behaved as MB Racing Green in a color will never be mistaken for "unprofessional."

I have this ink along with several other Levenger inks and I love it! It is one of my "go to" inks for signing business letters. It adds a little originality without being "off the wall". I am also currently enjoying Levenger Regal as my dark purple.

I love this ink; wonderful review! Here's some swaps of Empyrean to the left and True Teal to the right:

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
