Edson Serial Numbers

Recommended Posts

I've always known that my Edson had a serial number on the side of the top of the clip but I recently discovered there is another along the top of the nib section where the converter (or cartridge) is inserted.

Should these numbers match? It doesn't make a difference regarding how well the pen writes (which is most important to me) but if pen dealers are selling pens as "new" which have been cobbled together from diverse parts... it's not new.

Any ideas?

On mine, the number matches neither the original nor the current number of my cap. I'm pretty certain that they were not intended to match. For one thing, the number on the section where the converter goes in is 790-thousand-something, and I'd be very very surprised to learn that there have been that many Edsons made ever, never mind just the Diamond Black. I'd be surprised actually if there have been as many as 10,000 Diamond Blacks made. I'm just guessing that based on the numbers and the amount of time... they were released in April of 2007 and in August I bought #1234. The platinum of mine was flaking off so I sent it back and received #1659 in September. That cap came from the factory. If they had sold 1658 pens in six months, what do you think the odds are that they've sold another 8440 in the last seventeen months? In any case, I'm certain that a number approaching 800,000 (on mine) is not a serial number.

The serial number is only written on the clip of the cap, J.M.L.

I had a green Edson - now residing in a better climate - which has number 498006 inside on the tube holding the converter, and a "real" serial number 4089 on the clip (S: correct me if I'm wrong). My silver Edson has number 739253 inside and 514/4000 on the clip. The long numbers should be some production code to identify batches.

Could you please tell me where exactly on the clip? Does it have a zero before the number?

The very top of the clip, on the right side, next to where the clip joins the "arms" that encircle the cap.

Sorry the picture isn't clearer.

The number says 0514/4000 and sits in the lower curve of the loop opposite the clip, so at the rear of the cap, in very small type.

The number of the silver Edson is placed at the back as Frits mentioned. Thanks anyway!

I thank you for your good advice, sorry it took so long for me to reply with my thanks.
