Danitrio's Top of the Line...

Yokozuna were introduced for the first time at LA Show. Yokozuna means "Grand Champion" as in Sumo Wrestling. This is a large pen which provides a very large canvas for the artist to work on. The pen was fitted with an Emperor size 24kt solid gold nib. This is one of the attention grabber at the show and a local paper reporter and 2 photographers and a writer for Robb Report magazine spent a lot of time asking question about the pen and photograph them. We displayed total of 5 Yokozuna size pens and this one by far got the most attention at the show.

The pen is done by the second female artist, "Mayumi" in Danitrio's artist group. She is so meticulous, the time she spent doing the pen and the patience she must have is incredible. This is call the "Sarasa Moyo". The pen was sold to a collector of fine maki-e, and yes, he has more Danitrio maki-e then anyone I know, including me!

Enjoy the pics:

Everyone at the show who saw the nib were amazed that the nib can withstand pressure from writing, to give softness, yet does not buckle as most would assume the nib too soft for writing. Some also think the way to make pure gold hard is to add thickness, but to my eyes, they are no thicker than the 18kt nib. Maybe minute amount of other alloy is added for strength, but the nib still have the 24kt stamped

I need to find a new line of work - maybe robbing banks? I assume this puppy costs more than the $16k list price for a maki-e genkai?

A simply stunning pen!

VERTIGO VERTIGO VERTIGO VERTIGO ......

Now, seriously... this is meticulosity to a faaaaaaar extreme. Only a female artist with her two hemispheres may achieve such a painstaking work (may be a male too, but it is less common) ha ha...

Wow, I am really glad that this pen went to a collector. I hope that he puts it on a shelf for display!

Now that the keyboard has dried out from my drooling over it, i second Peter's statement: Simply incredible!

I like the maki-e work and I like the raden work, but I don't like how the elements combine. I recognize the mastery, but can't relate to the whole. (This is a problem I frequently have with Chinese and/or Japanese art, though.)

I'm glad someone got it, though!

To be able to show case so many styles, each with such incredible detail, in such harmony on one palette is a phenomenal. The pen is nothing short of stunning. A truly magnificent display of Mayumi's skills and talent.

What a beautiful pen!

Were it mine I think I would want to use it.

I was wondering what other people would think...

Another one for your viewing pleasure. This is done on the large Genkai size. ED filler.

Thanks Kevin.

We are headed for the state tournament in April. If we can finish 1st or 2nd we move onto the World finals in May. This is the kids' last year since they are all graduating. It will be good for them to face their two arch-rivals at state one last time.

Thanks for the offer but I think wait. Too many pens coming in right now. Besides, I prefer at this point for a custom order anyways. I have some ideas cooking.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
